Releasing on 14th December, Yeto Vellipoyindhi Manasu opened to mixed reviews. Brace yourselves- this is a rather mixed review.

It seems more apt to call this movie an Ilaiyraaja musical rather than a Gautham Menon film. In a way very unorthodox for me, I will begin with the cons. This movie drags and stretches in an infuriating manner. 2 hours and 20 minutes seems like 4-5 hours. This is a major drawback. And the only drawback. Now, the plot of the movie.

This movie is excerpts from Varun and Nithya's love story. Starting from the age of 8 we see them playing together, getting infatuated at 15, falling in love at 20 and trying to patch things up at 24. At each stage they end up breaking up due to circumstances and silly tiffs. Along with them are Prakash and Jenny, their best friends.

It is a lovely love story and a good concept. It has been shot very well. In cafes, restaurants and movie theaters- an apt location for an urban love story. Nothing too great about the dialogues other than one or two exceptions. The background music is superb and is being utilized at the appropriate time. The music is beautiful- classic Ilaiyraaja and any music buff should watch the movie just to listen to the songs. My personal favorites are Yedhi Yedhi and Koti Koti but the others are quite good as well. The lyrics are lovely, if anything, just shut your eyes, lean back, and listen to the https://lyrics.

Nani has given yet another fabulous performance and it's hard to imagine anyone else portraying Varun Krishna. Krishnudu is super and delivers witty one liners with a poker face. However, Samantha steals the limelight with another marvelous performance. She looks stunning (hats off to the designer) and delivers her dialogues perfectly. She gives Nithya Yelavarthy depth and style.

It seems rather odd, but other than Samantha and the music, the title is the best thing about this film. Yeto Vellipoyindhi Manasu (My Heart Has Gone Somewhere) is the perfect name for this heartwarming love story.

Watch this movie is you love music, Samantha or love stories. Take with you a little bit of patience and the climax rewards you- but watch this movie.
