Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 Review – I hate people who try to be funny! YPD was funny at first sight but it was slapstick, nothing extraordinary but YPD2 has fallen from where the first ended. The sweet deol saga suddenly tastes like stale lassi. The problem is that there is too much things in common – the conmen, the good guy, quite a similar plot! And the direction is far from satisfactory.

To begin with Dharam and Gajodhar are still up to their conning business, while the good guy Parwinder tries to get his brother and father out of their ways. The location has changed from Banaras to London and the victim now is Sir Yograj a disciple of Dharam  who has taken the most bankable route to riches – the way of a godman which reflects the tricks of the conmen of our times. Unknown to Dharam his disciple is now bankrupt. Without knowing this fact, he is on a mission to get his son(Gajodhar) married to Yograj’s daughter Suman and inherit all his wealth. Parwinder now works as a recovery agent who now takes up the job of a manager at Yograj’s club to recover a loan from him. Too many spoilers I guess, I’m sorry! But what started hilariously falls flat on its face by the end of it.

As for the acting, the veteran Dharamji does not disappoint you. His comic timing is world class but the dialogues are more like the collection of jokes from Salman Khan movies. I loved to see Sunny is this role in the first part of the movie but he seems to bore me out of hell in this part, I don’t know whether he was trying too hard but he fails in a similar role which he played the best in the prequel. Bobby seems much more repetitive that his brother and father. The other veterans in the movie including Annu Kapoor, Anupam Kher and Johnny Lever have done well but the lack of spark in the script leaves them   handicapped. Both the girls Neha Sharma and Kristina Akheeva are gorgeous and that’s about it but that gave me a reason to watch the otherwise boring movie. The unexpected star of the movie is an orangutan who acts better than most of them, he did steal the show  !

As I have already mentioned earlier, the direction, script and dialogues are too shabby and plagiarized. That leaves the otherwise talented actors with eggs on their faces. A monkey in the group actually made them look more amateurish. The Songs however are electric and will catch the mood of the masses, perhaps the only unit of the movie that planned their work really well.

The Deols sure have a huge fan base and the movie might see a very good opening, but it will most probably fail at the box office due to its lackluster story. Don’t waste your time over it! Enough Said!
