Myself SUBHRANSHU KUMAR DASH from Bhubaneswar, Odisha.I am a proud owner of Yamaha SZ-R(Black), which I brought home last year February, 4th.Now I have completed more than 13, 450kms.I take the opportunity to share something about Yamaha SZ-R, after reading several posts by my friends here in MouthShut_Official.
Why this vehicle:- After my MBA I got a job and I had to travel a lot in the city.I planned to buy a bike, One day, I saw a big hoarding of Yamaha SZ-X.I was not quite satisfied with the bike, as it was lacking disc brakes being a 153CC bike. So, I changed my mind to go for any other company. My frnds suggested me to go for HH HUNK or CBZ x-treme.I thought of going for a Honda Unicorn as 150cc always fascinated me in bike category.I visited the Honda Showroom(3-4)s, but thr was no stock of unicorn. Finally, I changed my mind as I had planned in my mind not to go for HH, Bajaj or TVS(Any Indian Companies). I went to a Yamaha dealer. They told me that, SZ-X will come up with a new model n look equipped with disc brakes. I felt relieved n decided to wait for another 1-2 months. Finally, My dream bike came and believe me guys without even seeing the original bike, I booked the bike as what I saw in the catalogue.Actually, I was looking for a bike which is powered by 150cc engine at least, wider rear tyre and more importantly the disc brakes, fuel economy and the price range. So, to me SZ-R is all-in-one.
Likes and Dislikes:- First of all the bike is from a global auto manufacturer YAMAHA which is participating in moto GP since 1980s. Superb technologies, Stylish looks, Color combination, Light weight(as I m a short-height guy), Superb head lamp, Great handling n controlling capacity, Instant pick up, great mileage in this class of bike, maintenance free bike(Even after riding 13, 000+kms not a single penny is spent by me).
Not too many negative aspects as told n reviewed by my frnds here. What I personally feel is, it lacks a passing switch which is very essential, a kick starter(now they r providing in both FZ n SZ series), The TVS tyres whose road grips are not good enough n even more worse when the road condition is wet.One should ride very carefully(below 40Km/h).
My driving Experiences:-Being in job, normally I travel in the city conditions, though I go for a long ride in every weekend with my friends. So, I am sharing my experience with you in mixed driving conditions. Initially, I was very much worried about the mileage as it was returning around 35-38 kmpl before 2nd service(to be frank enough it was told by the Yamaha dealer). After 3rd service, the bike showed around 45 to 48 kmpl, but below 50kmpl.I discuss it with my frnds, some told me to check it with the dealer, some told me that Yamaha is not good as far as the mileage is concerned. But One of my frnd told me not to worry about the mileage till the bike crosses 10, 000kms.He told me that, koi bhi Bike 10, 000km ke baad apni aukat dikhayegi, abhi fuel pine do engine ko aur badhiya se maintain kar ke rakho. From that day, I have never thought of mileage and frnds believe me, now my bike is returning a cool 55-57kmpl in mixed driving conditions. I normally ride the bike in the speed range of 55+ to 80.Though I have touched the speed of 100+(for 3-4 sec) and my frnd 110+in my bike. Not less than 60+ on an average.
One more request friends, plz maintain the bike well and then comment on its performance. These are your faults for what you are paying.Never ever try to blame a company which is making bikes since 1958(No name like HH or Bajaj was then) and a manpower of more than over 52, 000 world wide.
DO's n Don'ts:- ==WHAT I PERSONALLY DO N DON'T
1)Always have fuel more than half tank. Don't use reserve n don't complain.Always in main.
2)Check the tyre pressure in every 3-4 dayz.
3)Adjust the chain slack ness at least once in a month depending on travelling.
4)change the engine oil(yamaha 20w40) and oil filter element in every 2000-2300kms.
5)Check the electrolyte level of the battery in every 15-20 dayz depending on ur riding conditions.(at least once in a month).I do this as I don't have a kick start option, thank god, now they r providing.
6)Using of choke in the 1st start during morning is must.Don't use self all of a sudden.
7)Avoid using sudden acceleration
WHO SHOULD BUY N WHO SHOULD N'T:-
As I have said earlier, Itz a commuter class bike, so those who are travelling 50-60 kms/day, this bike has no other alternatives in its class. Those who are looking for fuel economy, engine power, style, comfort, itz good. This bike is specifchandru021y designed for the city use as it uses an electronic starting system n itz having a low-end torque which is very good for city riding(minimum no of gear shifts). Itz the cheapest bike in 150cc above segment.so money(60, 000 in my time), sports(looks), power(self+153cc), fuel(avg50+kmpl in any condition), safety(smooth disc brakes, not like Bajaj), instant pick-up(0-70 in 8 sec what I have achieved and what Yamaha claims. So, what more you want?I am personally over satisfied except the pass switch.
And guys those who have racing instincts, this bike is not for them. And don't tell that this is vibrating @6500rpm.I have comfortably achieved 8500rpm.The road should be like that and moreover ur gear shifting should be like that according to the acceleration. Coz, YAMAHA, HONDA n SUZUKI produces engines with zero vibrations even at higher speeds. Itz their specialty.
Yamaha uses the same engine(153cc) in both FZ n SZ series, but in case of the later the engine is detuned to give more mileage(14PS to 12.1PS).There is nothing to do with the bhp or PS.Even SZ accelerates faster than FZ series initially, but later it fails in long run.Pick up is better than FZ.One solid example of this is Yamaha R15 vs Pulsar 220.
Pulsar is 220cc n 21.04 PS and R15 is 150cc n 17PS. No where Yamaha stands upto Pulsar220 , but when top speeds are concerned pulsar reaches around 139-142(max) but Yamaha goes upto 152Km/Hr(see the official video in youtube).
So, Personally I feel that itz a very good bike in the market, but doctors differ. So, be careful in choosing what do u want your bike to be.Thatz important.Like price, look, speed, design n fuel etc.
THANK YOU N HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU.
