A great web site for the 8 million people in the small town of New York City is the Time Out New York Personals. For anyone living in the connecting boroughs of New York it's a great way to network new acquaintances.
It's apparent that all the other members want the same basic things, to share with others what they see as important, beautiful or just make contact with kindred spirits. Since registering 4 weeks ago, I have met 4 new friends, potential serious relationships, and have learned a lot about all the other folks that I share the city with. The daily-featured profile is pretty nice because you can take a look at what someone else thinks and feels. My own contacts have been from the Manhattan, Long Island, Queens, and Bronx/Brooklyn areas.
There are so many interesting people out there with a wealth of interests and possibilities, and Time Out Personals is the perfect way to screen potential contacts. I was skeptical at first, but when a close friend called to tell me that she had met her new husband on the personals site, I registered.
Its best feature is its simplicity. You can register and upload a picture in about 5 minutes, and it doesn't belabor the process by asking for self-discovery questions, just basic get-to-know-you things that would come up when you might meet any new acquaintance. You can also seek out potential dates or friends within a certain mile radius from a specified zip code, and request that only member profiles with photos be shown, so you can take a look at who interests you. But you can also screen those who do not wish to have a photo presented, and take a look at their favorites and background and e-mail them for a possible chat or meeting.
It's relatively safe- you don't have to upload a photo, although it helps to get responses. To register log on to Time Out New York at https://timeoutny.com. At the home page, look to the right of the screen, the column that reads 'Services', go to the spot that reads ‘personals’. This will take you to a page with featured profiles. On the far right, click on the space that reads ‘Join now for a free membership’. Click on it. This will take you to the page where you can create your own profile name (you don't have to use your real name), and password and write in some basic items like the last favorite book you read, and the 5 items that you can't live without.
What makes the site appealing and more friendly than other personals sites is the simple way you can register and send and receive messages, and its use by New Yorkers. There are other members in states as far away as California, but its largest user group seems to be people in the tri-state area immediately adjacent to Manhattan. This makes it easier to meet potential new friends who share the same politics and day-to-day effects of all New Yorkers.
The site also features all the new things happening in the area, like Theatre, Film, Books, current Museum openings, shopping thrills, and many other events that we come up against in the Big Apple. My own passions run along things like Broadway, which is always a great place to take a date.
