There can be various reasons for writing reviews on Mouthshut
-
~ Because I flunked my grammar test in high school and want to see whether I’ve improved now
~ Because I want all my reviews to figure in the hot reviews section. (Ain't I cool or what?)
~ Because I want to become a star writer. (Ooo! Lifetime achievement!)
~ Because I want to figure in everyone’s Five Best Writers list and bloat my ego.
~ Because I don’t want to figure in anyone’s Five Worst Writers list and be shattered in life. (Ooo the calamity would kill me!)
~ Because I want to sit back and compare one reviewer against the other in such reviews. (Yeah yeah I have all the time in the world)
~ Because I want to use this as a dating platform. (Chalti hai kya nau se barah?)
~ Because I want to hound people to add me into their trust list
~ Because I dread getting into anyone’s distrust list (My life is ruined and have lost the will to continue)
~ Because I want to nit pick at some members and hence be a little more satisfied in life.
-
Such noble motives, aren’t they? And all the reviews that incisively discuss these matters are also equally noble.
-
Now before I put even myself off with my sarcasm, here's actually why I write reviews on Mouthshut:-
~ Because I went and ate in a nice restaurant and want to encourage others to go there too.
~ Because I find certain books worth reading and would be happy to recommend them to someone interested in similar subjects.
~ Because I traveled to some nice places and would like tell those who are to visit there about what is to be done there, where to stay, what to buy etc.
~ Because I find certain actors and movies ridiculous and want to share my thoughts
~ Because I hate most TV serials these days, and want to wonder aloud why they are watched
~ Because I deal with common cold/headaches/ etc. in a certain way and want to convey it to others
~ Because I got bored to tears in a nightclub and wanted to tell others why
~ Because I didn’t like a particular car model and want to warn people intending to buy it
~ Because I found some magazine not worth a subscription and wanted to inform others.
~ Because I flew this real neat airline and want to goad others to try it out too.
~ Because I loved a packaged food product and would love to hear other peoples reactions
~ Because I had this wonderful stay in a hotel and am just waiting to tell others about it.
etc.
That this leads to appreciation of the writing style is just an added bonus. If the info in the review came handy to someone its reason enough for me to be more than happy.

Just give me good, reliable info, and spare me the compulsive need to have a hair splitting analysis on writers.
Isn’t the review being given a rating anyway? Or is that not enough?
I don’t know why, but we have all suddenly begun to sound like gossiping housewives of the 70’s. (“Arre woh writer hai na, uska latest review dekha kya? Pata nahi kya samajh ke likha hai, hmmph!” – accompanied with naak sikudna and foot stomp karna)
I don’t want to waste time thinking who are best or worst reviewers. I have some better topics to write on (?!?) (Now why do you find that so hard to believe?) * Like I’m contemplating to ask MS to add this crucial important category -'The Five Worst Item numbers of Manisha Koirala'. Useful and much needed topic isn’t it? *(No no don’t tear your hair out. Please don’t finally leave this site forever - I’m just kidding – Just Kidding!)
I enjoy reading the majority reviews, on movies, on books, on restaurants, on hotels, on places, on music, on cars, on handsets, on magazines, on newspapers, on tv channels, on perfumes, on soaps, on food stuff, on household articles. Each with their own quirks, idiosyncracies and delightful personal touches. The only difference is that some are slightly more useful and informative than others. Some more interestingly written than others.
Keep writing everyone!
