Well it's difficult to tell you how to write a great review. Reason being that when I write a review, I am not thinking about how to make it the best review on the net. I aim to only share my views/ opinions about things / services etc. which I feel may make a difference in the readers life.
I have read a few reviews which were written only for the sake of writing, and not really sharing any viewpoint as such.
I hope I am not doing the same here. You may please comment on that.
Anyways what I feel one should keep in mind while writing reviews is this:
A good review should be informative, entertaining and engaging.
First identify the product/service on which you will be writing.
Very necessary that you should have used the same, though Owning is not necessary. For eg. if you're writing on a vehicle, then it is required that you should have driven one yourself. It could be yours, your friends or rented. Point being - don't review based on heresay.
Brevity can not be overemphasised. Keep it simple and short.
You should have a good command of the language in which you are writing. On MS I guess that is only English. Also and a point many must have stated - A spell checker is your friend. Please do not leave any spelling errors in your review other than the intentional ones.
In case you are wondering about the last line of above point. An intentional spelling mistake looks cute in the right place. Do not use too many intentional spelling mistakes else people will doubt your intentions ;-)
Sometimes you only want to talk about one aspect of a product. That is because you have an opinion only on that part. Ummmm I think that should be fine, you really do not need to write extra points about features you do not want to comment upon.
Read your entire review before submitting the same. Better still get a friends review on your review Find out if all the details that you wanted to include are added or not.
And finally - After a lapse of time if your opinion / view changes Come right back and edit/ update your review.
You owe us that.
