What are you thinking that it is a classic Indian Movie? No this is not about the movie of 1964 released Manoj Kumar, Prem Chopra and Sadhna Starrer movie. This is the name of the thriller novel of Sh. Surender Mohan Pathak. “Wo Kaun Thi?” is a marvelous novel of Sh. Surender Mohan Pathak published in May, 1985. This is the 151st Novel of Pathak sir, falls in category of Thriller or Misc. Sh. Surender Mohan Pathak had written 60 novels in this category yet. Each novel of this category of Pathak sir is better than the better one. Pathak Sir spread the magic of his pen in all his works. The story of each novel is unique and marvelous for again and again readable.

“Wo Kaun Thi?” is a story of four murders occurred in series at intervals of two months. After every murder, police discovered the presence and interference of a mysterious, beautiful and angel face woman at crime scene. Even after four murders, police has no any clue about this mysterious woman that who was she and from where she came. Before each murder this mysterious woman was seen with every murdered person. But after each murder, she disappears like smoke and scent in air. The existence of this girl never seen anywhere after murder. After each murder, the investigation of police stopped at the point of information about the girl then police closed the cases as unsolved murder cases. But again police comes in action after one more murder. After thorough investigation, the police had assumed mysterious girl was murderer. It was the characteristic of murderer that she left a piece of black cloth of 2 yards nearby dead body after murder. Police has no other clue except this about the girl. Police has sketches of face of girl but every time girl changed her face and fashion. And after four murders police has only one question "Who was she?”.

The names of four persons who were murdered by serial manner Deepak Bhandari, Rajendra Rohatgi, AN Ahuja and Vivek Khastgeer. Sub-Inspector Maheshwari was investigating all the four murder cases. Maheshwari starts his investigation but it ends up at wall beyond which there seems no way to him. After repetitive rejection of his senior that the above incidents were of just accident not murder, Sub-Inspector Maheshwari not able to put any evidence in justification that these were murders. But still, his senior Inspector Bhoop Singh allowed him to working on this case. Many facts and theories came in mind of Sub-Inspector Maheshwari but he was not able to go forward with these theories.

Here murderer murdered all four persons in different manner. She pushed Deepak Bhandari from terrace and poisoned to Rajendra Rohtagi. She hit an arrow in the heart of Vivek Khastgeer. A.N. Ahuja was murdered very brutally. She closed the door of refrigerator when Mr. AN Ahuja went inside of refrigerator during play with his son Vikas Ahuja. Murderer used Vikas Ahuja as base and killed brutally Mr. A.N. Ahuja. There is another specialty of murderer, she came in contact with persons and build the small relationship with them. Then she killed them by cheating.

In the murder of Mr. A.N. Ahuja, she came as Madam Bhatnagar of Vikas Ahuja. During investigation, police came in contact with Miss Bhatnagar. Vikas Ahuja agreed that Miss Bhatnagar was with her on last but she was not. Police arrested Miss Bhatnagar for murder. But Murderer called to Sub-Inspector Maheshwari and told that Miss Bhatnagar was not real murderer. Murderer escaped using the name of Miss Bhatnagar. But at last, in the end, crime cannot be hidden ever.

But the main point is there, who was she and why she was murdering. Is there any objective behind these murders? Is she was crazy, eccentric or homicide maniac just want to kill? Or, she was hired to murder these persons? Or, She was related to any such organization who does not want see these persons alive? Or, she was just wanted to take revenge? There are many questions that were revealed only in the climax of the novel. Pathak Sir crafted this novel with the mysteries and secrets that were revealed only in the climax.

The main character of this novel is a mysterious young woman who has dominated every character of the entire novel. Sh. Surender Mohan Pathak sir presented her very well with illustration of her uniqueness and beauty. Pathak sir stated many times about the beauty of this mysterious young woman. There is not any posture or attitude of murderer on her face when this goddess of beauty committing murder. It seems like she is not taking life but giving life back. It seems that god sent her on earth to take life only and everyone know this truth so why they gave life easily in her hand.

Character of Sub-Inspector Maheshwari is strong and admirable. Maheshwari closed the case of murder but when he listen that black cloth found nearby another dead body; he start again the investigation with high energy to find out murderer. But again he found frustration in hand. But he did not lose his hope and tries his fortune repeatedly. In one conversation with his superior, he remarks that he will work hard after his office time and before his office time. Indians are yearning his eyes to see such determination in Indian police officers. No one knows when this type of police officer will be in police department.

There are many more character except these two like Deepak Bhandari, Rajendra Rohtagi, AN Ahuja and Vivek Khastgeer and Pradeep Bahra but they were limited to only in their parts. There is also mention of a novel author who played very important role in this novel.

Pathak sir tied the environment of this which is full of mystery and thrill and you can’t stop yourself of turning pages of this novel. After long time, I read this novel which filled-up of mysteries and queries then I can say there is only one author in crime-fiction world, none other than, Sh. Surender Mohan Pathak. Truly, Sh. Surender Mohan Pathak is an emperor and king of this type of writing. There no others novels in front of novels of Sh. Surender Mohan Pathak which gives us such entertainment and adventures. Pathak sir presented this novel very strongly and beautifully. Pathak sir forwarded this story layer by layer due to this adventure and mystery has grown threefold.

The title of this story is making the soul of story meaningfully. “Who was She?” this question remains on your tongue same until climax of the story. If you want to read a novel that bind you for three hours then pick up this novel and get started. You will forget all the activities when you are reading it. It is a novel that compels you to finish it first.
