Windows Media Player(WMP) is an audio and video player with library support. The latest version for Windows XP and Vista is WMP11 which was last updated in 2006. However, Windows 7 comes bundled with WMP12 which was updated more recently in 2011.
It claims to support many audio and video formats but falters terribly in its duties. It does not play the newer formats like FLAC and MKV. It also does not support subtitle playback. It shows, "Not responsing" error while trying to play 1080p content.
The player is a memory hog. It is slow to respond and causes frequent system hangs. The quality of playback is also poor compared to other players like KM or VLC player. The equalizer settings are ineffective in enhancing the aural experience.
The player is very poor in importing your playlist. It sort your file collection randomly without any order. It also make duplicate file entries in your mp3 library which can be a nuisance.
The one feature that works well on WMP is the CD audio ripping and burning feature. However, there are better standalone utilities that have better features with a lower footprint.
Do yourself a favor and avoid this crap-ware. It has too many bugs with no hopes of improvement(Note: Windows 8 onwards has stop supporting WMP installation). Do rate my review and let me know what you think. Cheers!
