You shyly look at those big brown eyes, those flutter of the eyelashes, that stolen glances as she leaves ? and you fall in love !!! Pomp and splendor all around , aunts and aunties, friends and relations ? you both get married ? and then ? the reality strikes ?!!!
Wondering why such a simile ? well reading Suresh?s review I proceeded to download all the songs and the words penned by Suresh were exactly the same that flowed through my heart as I listened to this beautiful composition ? but then again as First love, the after look at the Album made me look at it in a strictest sense that a reviewer takes.
The Album here is undoubtedly ?Warriors of Heaven and Peace?, a movie based on the Silk route and music by OUR own A R Rahman. I have stated in my earlier reviews and my statement that ?Music transcends all boundaries? is exactly what Mr Rahman has done.
The task here for Rahman has been a tad different from what he as done earlier ? as there is specific ?Song? in the movie except one, the others are basically the soundtrack of the movie. Though he has done it umpteen times before, there are two changes, one being there are no standard Song and dance routines and second and the most important one ? its Chinese !!!
Have gone through the detailed explanation given by Suresh it would wrong on my part to re do the same routine again ? so here we look at the songs that impress ..
Leading the pack is the song Warriors of peace ?and for goodness sake don?t listen to the Hindi version ..its in plain words ?AWFUL !!! but the Chinese version is AWESOME ? All songs are best in their original format . The slight tanpura behind, the gentle percussions , the singing prowess of the songstress , bowls you over ?.
The tune that?s there in this song is carried on like a theme song in quite a few songs like Blue Light and the title track.
Buddha?s remains is a good track but cannot be heard anytime as its got a somber touch to it , sometimes eerie also .. Dacoit Duel gives Sivamani a platform to perform and result is ? percussion at its best ?especially after the slow start and the best part is the Flute piece after the initial burst. .
Escape is too vibrant for a soundtrack of this kind and especially a Chinese movie. The music is catchy though !!!. Lai chiis enchanting ?but if you ask me a certain Oruvan Oruvan song from Muthu kept coming to my mind .. why .. I don?t know why ? aaaaaaaah yes A R Rahman was the music director of Muthu !!!
Another masterpiece apart from the Warriors of Peace is ? Lord An?s Empire , from the movie?s viewpoint though it sounds like the movie is shot in Pakistan or Afghanistan.. but for a connoisseur of Music .. this is bliss !!!
Other songs don?t worth a mention ?according to me !!!
Final Viewpoint
If you are a Rahman fan, a keen observer and listener of Fusion music, purchase this cassette or CD. Else I feel the downloads available on the net would suffice. Apart from the two songs specifically mentioned ? none of them linger on your mind ? a trait which is oh so typical of Rahman , all his tunes are etched in our memory !!!
Im a fan of yours Mr Rahman and going global is not easy at all , keep working at it and all of us are looking forward to your Broadway interpretation of the Lord of the Rings.
