I recently purchased 1.5 Ton Voltas Vertis Plus AC. I am very much satisfied with the AC so far. Before buying it I did some research and that is what I want to share with the readers.
Basically I compared among LG, Voltas and Hitachi Window ACs. Hitachi looked like the best and the most expensive (Rs. 25000) out of these 3 ACs. LG is the cheapest one and cost around Rs. 18000. I bought Voltas for 20,500 rupees and it include the price of stablizer also. So you won't find much cost difference between LG and Voltas. Moreover Voltas being a Tata product, you might get some discounts if someone from your family is employed in Tata (many of you might have relatives in TCS, so don't forget to use them :-)
I did some research on internet too before buying this product. From internet websites you will feel that to cool 14*14 ft. room, 1 ton AC will be sufficient. But if you will go to some showroom, they measure it like 100 sq. feel per ton. I was not sure and so I went for 1.5 ton.
Hitachi promises to be the best among these three because it is energy saver (EER 10.5) and very less noisy (43dB). LG's LWA 18 F2/G2 models state EER at 9.75 and 52 dB. Voltas is at 9.3 and 56 dB.
For non-technical persons, I would like to clear that higher the EER ratio, lesser electricity will be consumed by AC. And lower the noise level (dB), better the AC be. So Hitachi compensates its cost by being the most efficient one. I would like to remind you that I have not experienced Hitachi's performance in real time because I opted for Voltas.
As such, all of these promise to be good ACs.
Happy Summer Time
