My experience. I am a automatic lover. I have Rapid diesel Automatic. Celerio petrol automatic and Ameo diesel automatic. I purchased Ameo with a preoccupied experience and feeling with Rapid Automatic.
Good about Ameo:
Class leading automatic DSG gear box. Smooth. Pleasure to drive.
Powerful engine. Punchy on highways.
Premium appeal over Maruti and Hyundai on road presence.
Solid build quality and safety
Good road manners and stability
Good mileage on diesel on highways 18+ and city about 14-16.
Lot of features
Bad about Ameo:
Now, this is linked with usage of the car for which it is bought for. Few will buy it for personal single person drive. Few chauffeur driven. Few as a family car, few for all purposes family and company/business purposes. And out of my experience, I say that this car suits best for single person drive or max two persons. All else are practically ruled out. Rear seats are virtually present but practically usable for kids. Adults and elderly people suffer a lot. Seat position is so awkward. Can't sit more than half an hour. Getting in and out of rear seat is a real pain as the rear door is very small in breadth. Rear legroom is worst. If you keep some bag and there will be no place to keep leg. If you keep leg, then there is no space to keep any even a small bag. Although you sit two in rear, third person is a punishment to the middle one as there is a huge tunnel hump in the middle. I took my family to Rameshwaram for a family trip, first trip after buying. That was my last long trip. The people in rear literally cried. There after we use for long trips only if we are two persons or max 1 hr if people coming in rear. There is lot of times, we scratched on the bumps with three at back with luggage at boot. However the car may be premium , pleasure to drive and good looking. The basic purpose of carrying people around in comfort is defeated 100% in this car. My sincere advise. Don't go for Ameo. You can go for Rapid. Ameo is a India specific product and it is not a global product. Likely to go out of production any time soon. Not so good selling. Poor resale value. I myself not able to justify the value it gives against the cost of running (service and insurance costs too high) proposed to sell the car and not getting a good resale value. Now I am stuck with it. VW had designed the Ameo thinking that All Indians are dwarfs. I am not so tall. For my average height of 5'7" if somebody is sitting behind me I have to compromise on my leg room by putting my seat a bit front for them to have a better leg room. In driver seat, you will not be able to drink water if it is a 1 litre bottle as it will hit the roof. The worst happening when I decided to sell the car is when I accidentally happened to drop few of important delegates to a place. All were well built elders. They first got in and sat down. Then after 10-15 mins. It was so uncomfortable that they took a taxi. It was so shameful that I had a sleepless night that day. Overall, the value this car gives for the price is very very poor. Sound insulation is very poor. Too much cabin and engine noise than rapid/Vento. Very hard at night times as no cabin lights at rear.
