Poor customer service - wrong deductions

I have been using a Vodafone number for the last 3 years and have found the network to be efficient and good. Their customer service has been good except for a couple of times when they acted strange. I have a Vodafone connection from Chennai and am presently using the same in national roaming to surf the net. Around October last year they billed me for caller tunes. I had set my caller tune as Kunnakudi's violin theme which was changed to a Lord Ayyappa song without my knowledge. Time and again I got calls asking when I was pl;anning to visit sabarimalai. I checked my caller tune and was usrprised to hear the song instead of the soothing music that I had originally set. I called up the customer care and argued with them since they were robbing gullible users in daylight. I had a 45 minute argument with them and even went to the Vodafone store to complain. They said that they would take a request and that my original caller tune would be restored. Despite several calls to the customer care my caller tune was never set right and I was forced to deactivate the same.


Yesterday(22-Sep-2011) I had a balance of INR 87 around 20:00 hrs. At 08:30 hrs on 23-Sep-2011 my balance had plummeted to -62.49. I enquired with the customer care and was told that I had activated international roaming and that Rs. 149 was deducted because of that. I told them that I have not visited any foreign country(for that matter I have not even dreamed about a foreign country). What rubbish was this. I had a very heated argument and have threatened to take legal action against the provider if my balance is not restored by evening. I spoke tothe customer care executive who informed that I was dialing the post paid department. After a long hiatus and argument with them I finally got to the prepaid department and was told that I have availed ISD roaming. I dunno if its possible to go overseas and come back within 12 hours without a visa or a ticket. But this ridiculous reply has just left me fuming. The staff have not been polite, their answers have been ridiculous and their attitude has been apalling. Imagine deducting 100 rs from a single connection and calling it some stupid rental. Per month they would have deducted 100 rs per person. For no fault of theirs customers are losing their hard earned money. No wonder these telecom companies are huge giants in the corporate sector.


This incident has left a sour taste in the mouth and I am seriously thinking of legal proceedings against the carrier. Would appreciate counsel and if someone has suggestions on how to proceed with this, its welcome.
