Cool music, great lyrics, and confident young women redefining the phrase femme fatale! This is what describes VIVA! (yes, it's not Viva or viva, but it's VIVA! I think they put that exclamation mark at the end because they're soooooo exciting!) at best.
Selected from over 500 other girls hell-bent on making it big in the world of music, glamour, fashion and most importantly, fame, Anushka, Pratichee, Neha, Mahua and Seema have redefined the word talent and have had their lives changed beyond their wildest dreams!!!
The 5 girls were selected by a jury of veterans like the well - known Indian classical singer Shubha Mudgal and composer Sandeep Chowta after more than five rounds of extensive tests (on singing) all of which was being premiered on Channel [V], live!!!
Imagine the joy the girls must have felt when they were told they were selected to form India's first all girl pop band from 500 other competitors from all over the country!! They hit the nation like a tidal wave as they launched their first album, VIVA!, in 2002. Instantly, they became a hit with their first song 'Hum Naye Geet Sunaye' composed by the Dil Chahta Hai trio - Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy. After that, there was no looking back! The girls set off on a wild and exciting journey in the magical world of music.
Their first album contains 8 songs, all of which have been composed by famous composers comprising of names like Clinton Cerejo! Here's a bit about their songs:
1) Hum Naye Geet Sunaye - The best song in the whole album which keeps you taping your feet and humming for hours and hours later!!! I even dreamt about it at night!
Exotic vocal arrangements with a fine blend of rock, and techno music, this song sure has you swaying! After all, every Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy song is a hit for sure! Rating: * * * *
2) Jahan ho Pyar ka Mausam - A light hearted, romantic song which spreads all over your mind like a light perfume! Exccellent music arrangement and beat.

3) Mujhe Zindagi Mein Ek Dost Chahiye - A very hopeful song which tells us of a girl's aspirations about the perfect soulmate. Vocal arrengement is good, so is the music. Rating: * * *1/2
4)Ja Sakte Ho! - A wonderful, powerful rock song, which is the perfect example of feminism!! Great vocals by all the girls and superb timing! SUPERB mixing!

5) Kisse Poochein? - The highlight of this song is that every line - I repeat, every line - is a question! Some great musical passages that had me quite lost in the music. Excellent flute arrangement and mixing.
Rating: * * * *1/2
6) Tum ko Hai Agar Pyar Mujhse - A great techno song with a hint of heavy metal, this is the one you wanna play when you're in a wild, romantic mood.....has great seductive lyrics! Great music and great mixing!

7) Jaago Zara - This is probably the most perfect song after 'Hum Naye Geet Sunaye'! A quiet song, which appeals to people to wake up and see the world around them with different eyes and take action against the inhuman atrocracies they see in the world around them.
Excellent timing by all the girls, exotic music and beautiful mixing!

8)Kaali Mai Diya Salaai - As with every good thing, there are some cons, this song could quite be called the black sheep of the album. The lyrics are strictly OK and the music is not too good except for the fast rhythem of the tabla. OK to listen to sometimes, like maybe, once a month! :-)

The lyrics are all written by the well known lyricis, Javed Akhtar.
All in all, VIVA! is all about confidence, attitude and, of course, a strong, rippling streak of feminism along with some great music!
