During the NBA playoffs, Netzero was the main supporting sponsor of the half time events. They promoted their new Platinum Netzero ISP service that is half the cost of AOL and other ISP servers. They also promoted their free ISP service as well. What they failed to mention is the many problems that accompany their free service, along with the poor service the Platinum has to offer.
In order to receive the free service there is a monthly limit placed on the time you can be connected, not to mention the fact that at anytime you can be disconnected if you're on too long at any given time. For example you may spend an hour researching information for a school paper and just when you're in the middle of printing the information an illegal operation icon pops up and you're disconnected. Bummer huh?
Another thing they fail to mention is the constant annoyance of banner ads every time you click or move your mouse on anything. Who wants to be bombarded with ads for things that they may not ever buy in life.
I wouldn't count on using an instant messenger too much. They say that their system supports MOST instant messengers, but they fail to mention that after so long another illegal operation takes place. So many illegal operations go on that you should fear being arrested for poor ISP usage.
I'm not even going to go into the quality of the email account you receive. Just don't plan on using that too often. Your message could wind up floating off in space to a land unknown.
Last but not least, there is no protection. As a consumer you're not protected against the ills of someone getting your information and taking advantage of your identity.
I would recommend that anyone serious about using the internet spend the extra bucks for a pay ISP instead of ruining their computer on a poorly created free service.
