This is a film that you should watch if you are not going to spend much time watching the film in the theatre and are going to be doing something more worthwhile..
Its ok, I mean one cant call it terrible, but you can call it bad. The story line sucks.. probably the only thing worse than Richard Gere in the film. Dianne lane has put up a decent performance if anything. The man involved in the 'unfaithful' angle (what was he called again... ) performs as expected, which is not saying much.. All he has to do is make a face and have a body language that says, 'come F me for fun baby' which shouldnt have been very difficult. One thousand road romeos in Bombay will vouch for that.
The performance of the dog (if you noticed it) is simply awesome. It seems to be the only being that has any sense in that film. It atleast seems natural in the small role it plays.
Lots of sequences in the film are extremely forced (except Mr. F me) and it seems that the film has no solid bearing. There is nothing that holds your attention throughout the film except when the dog enters the scene. Richard Gere's performance is insipid but then so is the story. Dianne lane in all her splendour still doesnt have that oomph that lured millions of sex starved sick frustrated idiots to the cinema halls to watch Sharon stone in Basic instinct. If it wasnt for the wiseass comments being passed by a group of even more idiotic (than the film) college students (if that is possible) in the next row, I fear I would have fallen asleep to wake up only the next day.
Its a great film to show your kids if you have any difficulty putting them to bed.
One ends up feeling sorry for Richard Gere.. not because of what happens to him in the film... but because he cant act and he tries desperately hard to do so. If you are a Richard Gere fan then go watch the film. He needs the support.
If you still want to see it.. go then, but do it for the dog.
