According to a NYC passenger’s claim, Uber driver used fake vomit to force her to pay$200 in cleaning fee.
Art director Meredith Mandel used Uber service for a ride from Fort Greene to Williamsburg, Brooklyn on Feb 21. She was accompanied by her boyfriend and a friend, all of whom were sober. However, next morning she was appalled to see a$219 fare for the two mile trip. On challenging Uber for the exorbitant fee, she learnt that the driver had complained of her throwing up in the car, for which a cleaning fee of$200 was charged and$19 was the trip fare.
The photos shared by the driver show photos of vomit on the front seat and dashboard while Mandel says to have rode in the backseat with her companions. She also pointed out that the puke seemed restricted to easy-to-clean surfaces.
This is not the first time that a passenger has fallen victim to the fake vomit scam. Similar incident have previously been reported in Los Angeles and Tampa, Florida
