I took an Uber cab to Chennai airport on 19.2.2016. On top of the meter fare he added a convenience fee of Rs.100/-.
This convenience fee is charged by the airport ONLY for cabs which pick up passengers and NOT FOR cabs which enter for DROPPING passengers. If cabs which drop passengers exit within 10 minutes they are not charged anything.
Thus Uber is charging something from passengers which it just pockets. I took this up with their customer care but to no avail. They kept repeating that whenever a cab passes through a toll the convenience fee gets added. The next time, on 10.04.2016 I took an Ola cab to the airport. I asked about this convenience fee to the Ola driver. He said that there is no such thing and showed me the board at the entrance to the airport which says that if the cab exits within 10 minutes no charge is payable. Ola did not charge me this "convenience fee". I sent the Ola invoice to Uber but they continue to maintain that the convenience fee is payable. Rs.100/- is not a big amount. But giving false information(that the convenience fee is payable even when dropping passengers) to unjustly charge Rs.100/- is a very unethical practice. I have decided to avoid Uber hereafter.
