- Stairway to heaven/Kashmir - Led zeppelin
Jones decided on bass, Bonham hammered the drums, Paige fingered the lead and Robert Plant tried to sing. In the process they ended up making everybody first sit, then stand, and finally groove. If Plant was blessed with a haunting baroque voice, Paige literally made the guitar weep.
Imagine - John Lennon
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today.
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
No religion too
Imagine all the people
living life in peace.
Great lyrics, great music. what can I say about Lennon the ex-Beatle, that you probably don't already know. That he is my all time favorite Beatle? easy to guess by now. Ok then how about this.
That Imagine was once derided by critics for having communist undertones(no heaven, no religion) and was even referred to as the latest atheist anthem!
Was it Johny who once remarked during a live concert, 'All those in the last rows clap and shout, those in the front rows just rattle your jewellery'?
- Knocking on heaven's door- Bob Dylan
American folk singer?(american folk?!) Guy with a loud nasal growl for a voice? A scare-crow had a better mop on top than him? many things characterize this face of 60's America. When Dylan auditioned for the first time he got kicked on his but* so hard that his determined undeterred walk back to the music studios is in itself nothing short of a miracle.
(GnR's cover of this song made it touch new heights.)
- The End - Jim Morrison(doors, the)
The way Doors performed this song, it sounds more like a rock-poem than a rock-song. And that's exactly how Jim loved to call himself, a soul scorching poet.(slight exaggeration, but not much). Listening to this piece is like taking a trip into the unknown. You don't know what's gonna happen next. Slowly all sounds cease, music becomes a trickle, one can discern only the minutest * ting tings * of the triangle. and then with the same abruptness everything burst backs into life.
- Born in the USA - Bruce Springsteen
Much covered in MS already, 'Boss' ain't a stranger no more on MS.
'Beer soaked and gravel coated'. Now repeat the last sentence slowly. Roll it around your mouth.bounce it on the tongue. Get the feel?
That's exactly how he sounds but you better check it out for yourself. Don't wanna
- Coming back to life - Pink Floyd
Awesome track with long riveting, exaggerated resounding guitar sounds harboring on blues. Roger waters, Syd Barret /// David Gilmour, Peter Wright?. These folks were responsible for it.
- Black - Pearl Jam
Easily the best ever love-gone-horribly-wrong sorta track. Eddie Vedder is the man when it comes for soul searching. He sings like it's his mean business, like it's nobody else's business. Black is a beautiful track where Eddie sings about a girl who left him for another guy. He croons about how the girl will surly be a sun in somebody else's sky, but why couldn't that sky be his.
- Lady in black - Uriah Heap
Any guesses about where this band gets the inspiration for its' name? Shouldn't be too hard.
(Ans. in comments)
Good number, easy flowing https://lyrics. The drummer shines all the way.
- Sweet Child of mine - Guns and Roses
The beginning lead is the first thing that strikes you. Slash literally finger f**ked the guitar. Axl Rose too is not far behind with his testosterone loaded vocals.
- Baba O' riley - Who, The
Pete townshed's baby, it's a track about two gay lovers who get sick of each other. For a change they want to make it out with another bi in-between, know the sandwich position? .haha just kidding. Go check it out for yourself the timeless beauty of this track.
- Zombie - Cranberries, The
Irish band. One of the two female singers to feature in this list. Dolores sings with that rough edge about the mindless bombings and killings by the IRA.'amma' a.k.a Jaya digs this band.
- It's the same old theme since nineteen-sixteen.
In your head, in your head they're still fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are dying.
- Wasted years - Iron Maiden
Bruce Dickinson does a swell job here, though Iron Maiden's penchant for showing grinning skeletons wearing colorful tattered clothes never stuck a chord with me. Wasted years is a fast paced number which gets you head banging within no time.
- Smells like teen spirit - Nirvana
Garage rock at its' best. Awesome beats with hedge bass and sharp lead. Kurt single handedly made Seattle the hunting ground for Grunge.
Free Falling - Tom Petty
She's a good girl, loves her mama
Loves Jesus and America too
She's a good girl, crazy'bout Elvis
Loves horses and her boyfriend too
ain't it sweet?
- What if god was one of us - Joan Osborne
The only other female in the list. Haven't heard much of her but this number sure rocks. Video is also cool. Find the title quite profound.
- In the name of Love - U2
Bono and gang excel in this one. The live version of this song is even better where Bono dedicates it to Rev. Martin Luther King. Beats me how come so many bands and singers have Irish origin?
- Losing my religion - R.E.M
Rapid eye movement. Michael Stipes voice here seems like that of a cute fluffy puppy begging his master for another bowl of milk. Alright bad analogy but track is awesome.
- Only god knows why - Kid Rock
I hate Kid Rock's sartorial sense. A Stetson and a baniyaan, always. He gets his kicks from a combination of rap-rock.'Only God.' I guess is his only track where he sings steady and he sure did a fine job here. Lyrics too make a lot of sense.
- Why don't you get a job - Offspring
Quite a recent phenomenon. Most of you have already heard it or heard about it.My friend's g-o-t-t-a girlfriend and he hates that btch.My friend's g-o-t-t-a boyfriend and she hates that dick.
Awfully cool, as any dyed in the wool feminist is wont to put it.
- Macy day parade - Green Day
The young Turks in the list, Macy day has been sung in a single alto through out and makes for a great sing-along number.
Writing top this and top that is mostly lowest common denominator stuff.(no wonder all those women centric zines never tire of it).
By the way do check out Aisha by a danish paki band called Outlandish. It's on air and gathering steam. Hip hop but makes for great listening.
So tell me who sang these lines?
Jesus loves you more than you will know
(Wo, wo, wo)
Heaven holds a place for those who pray
(Hey, hey, hey.hey, hey, hey)
A nation turns its lonely eyes to you(Woo, woo, woo)
Joltin' Joe has left and gone away
(Hey, hey, hey.hey, hey, hey)
