“Hai Sab se madhur who geet jinhe hum dard ke sur mein gaate hain”.

True the most melodious songs are those which have a little pathos in it. Below, I present my choice of twenty best tragic songs(serially not based on merit but as a collection), sung by different singers, written by different lyricist and composed by versatile and most accomplished music directors.

The songs are based on marvellous lyrics and above all the melodious compositions.

My previous reviewers have greatly stressed on Mohd Rafi, Mukesh, Lata, Kishore and others but have forgotten the most versatile singer Talat Mahmood’s renderings whose typical voice was well suited for these type of songs.

The first ten songs are the best ones by Talat as solo and in duet.

  1. Hai Sab se madhur who geet jinhe hum dard ke sur mein gaate hain. [ Film: Patita, music by Shankar-Jaikishen, sung by Talat Mahmood for Dev Ananad, lyrics- Shailendra]

  2. Teri Ankh ke Ansoo Pee Jaoon, Aisi meri taqdeer Kahan, [ Film: Jahan Ara, Singer-Talat Mahmood for Bharat Bhoosan, , Lyrics- Rajendra  Krishna, Music- Madan Mohan]

  3. Jayen to Jayen kahan, samajhega kaun yahan, dard bhare dil jubaan.[

Film: Taxi driver, Singer(s) Talat for dev Anand, Lata for

Kalpana  Kartik, Lyrics- Sahir Ludhianvi, music- S D Burman]

  4. Shikwa Tera main Gaoon [  Film: Anmol Ratan, Singers: Talat for Karan Diwan and Lata for Meena Kumari, Music: Vinod]

  5. Sab Kuchh Loota Ke Hosh mein aye to kya kiya [  Film: Ek Saal, Singer Talat for Ashok Kumar, Music-Ravi Lyrics- Sahir]

  8. Aansoo Bhari hai ye Jeevan Ki Rahen, koi unse kehde humen bhool jayen [  Film: Parvarish, Mukesh sings for Raj Kapoor, Music: Dattaram, Lyrics: Shailendra]
