I bought TVS Jupiter last month( Nov 2014) from Mahavir TVS, Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh). From the first day I started liking this one as the engine feels smooth, acceleration is good enough.
This scooter easily reaches 60 Km/h speed on highway which is sufficient for this category of vehicle.
At 60 and even at 70 and 75 Km/h there is hardly any harshness in the engine which makes me really pleased about the engine.
Also the sound coming from the engine exhaust is very nice and pleasant to ears, it is not annoying. The engine is neither very silent nor very loud. It is always good to hear.
Brakes are good and provide enough punch to stop the vehicle quickly. Overall build of the vehicle is also impressive as I have seen Honda Activa and Suzuki Swish.
I am not saying that Activa and Swish have poor build but you can't rate Jupiter lower than any other scooter in terms of build quality.
As of now I have traveled over 400 Km on my TVS Jupiter and till now I never kicked it second time in the morning. It always starts in single kick.
I always start in the morning with kick as suggested in user manual and by the dealer. I always use choke to warm up the engine during cold mornings(nowadays - Dec 2014) as it is suggested in the user manual to use choke during cold starts.
Till now it has given the mileage around 50 Kmpl(1st refill - 52Kmpl, 2nd refill - 46 Kmpl, 3rd refill - 50 Kmpl). The difference in mileage is due to different roads through which I have traveled.
I have not taken a ride on the Honda Activa, but I have ridden Suzuki Swish and Jupiter is comparable in terms of power and performance with swish.
Swish may have some extra power while climbing uphill but that too needs to be tested. Swish has some cons like the kick is not easily accessible, one has to put it on center stand to use kick while I can kick start Jupiter from the seating position as well as with side stand only.
In TVS jupiter the self start makes some kind of THAK sound but it works perfectly and this is normal with all TVS scooters.
Today on 16 Dec 2014 1st free service is done.
Engine Oil Replaced, Air filter and spark plug cleaned.
There is a problem with the service station at Mahavir TVS, not only at Mahavir TVS but I guess at almost all service stations in the locality.
The problem is that the men at service station are good in their work and they do the servicing well but they don't have a complete expertise in vehicle servicing.
They need an educated supervisor to tell them what to do with the vehicle in a particular service.
For example It is clearly mentioned on the user manual that on first service Engine oil and Transmission oil should be replaced(as this is the run-in period for the engine).
But at Mahavir TVS when I asked to replace the transmission oil then the person first told that it is not replaced on 1st service and when I asked on which service it is replaced then he replied that engine and transmission oil are not filled differently, i.e. the oil filled in engine oil compartment also circulates in the transmission compartment.
This is very sad because it is clearly mentioned in the user manual that transmission oil is separately filled in the transmission compartment(100ml) and the procedure to replace the transmission oil is bit different however the oil used in transmission is same as used in engine.
This is really annoying as this kind of behavior by the service personal could lead to a sever damage to the internals of a vehicle and no one will blame him until the customer knows about this.
Everybody will blame the company at that time. So TVS needs to improve in that department.
As an example after every service at authorized service station whether free or paid Maruti Suzuki always calls the customer directly and asks him if he is satisfied by the service done or not.
And if someone is not satisfied then he can register a complaint which is actually acted upon by the company.
