Review On TTDC - Ooty. Review on TTDC Youth Hostel, Ooty

This review is on Tamilnadu Tourism Dev Corporation (Actual Hotel not the Youth Hostel) Hotel in Ooty. I have not found a separate section for it so writing it here.

Booking

While I have planned for a tour to Ooty I desperately looking for a Hotel that I can book online. There are different online travel agents like Travelguru, Makemytrip which provides online booking for the Hotel in Ooty but I was not sure whether that would be a safe bet. Because in Mouthshut I have found that most of the time user ends up with fraud case. So I was searching where I can book the hotel directly from the Hotel. There were number of such types of hotel those have their own online booking system. But problem was that all these far from my budget. My budget was max Rs 1000/day with a decent hotel. At that time I found a link (in a blog) which directed me to the TTDC site. I have found that they provide online booking and they are very less costly also. Initially I thought it was a govt service. They may lack that type of professionalism. That might not be secured service. So mail them to their customer service and I got reply on next day. It impressed me that there are customer care and they respond. Most of the time Private service have more professionalism to decline all the charges on them. So I trust their service and booked one deluxe room 900/day for 3 days. It was end of august and my booking was on October. I needed to just print out the transaction. I mailed them 3 times regarding this booking and after the booking and every time I got responses withing 2 days. So quite good. Isn't it?

Location

The Hotel is at the WENLOCK ROAD in Ooty. Just 2 stops before the Ooty bus stand. I take a auto (charged 30 ) to take me to the Hotel. Hotel is not at all in a crowdy place.  Only this hotel is there and just going down one step the main Ooty market and main road. So waking 5 mins we can go to the Ooty market, ATM s bank etc. The Hotel is situated with a large area with gardens. You can walk along the front road which have good natural beauty. The main attraction of the Ooty is Botanical Garden it is just 10-15 min walk from the hotel.

Room and Services

I generally choose the medium priced room as to be safe side both in terms of service as well as cost. We were two persons, my wife and my self. The room was a very big. Really very big and surprisingly very neat and clean. All the furniture, TV everything was there and actually more than sufficient for a double bed room. The bathroom was very very big with hot and cold water service. Back up power service was also there and that was also very required. There was a balcony which have very good view point of the Ooty. Room service was prompt.

There was a restaurant just on that floor. Restaurant was also moderately clean, lots of options in the menu card and moderately priced, taste is ok. ( there was a restaurant "Punjabi Restaurant' near the Ooty market. 5 mins walking. That was fabulous and price was very low. I have not taste so beautiful mutton and tandoori in my life till now. Alas I tasted that only on last day on my staying in Ooty!). Service boys in the restaurant was not very dashing in terms of etiquette and mannerism but very friendly, and always warmly welcome you.

Other Services

They have a tie up with a travel agency for the site viewing. They pick you up from the Hotel and drop in the hotel. Price was less than the actual rate for the site seeing, they provide a good discount for the TTDC hotel customer.

I chose deluxe room. The normal rooms' charges was 700/day and for Super Deluxe it was 1100/day. Don't know how the super deluxe room was. But normal room was also very good only small in size. If that is only difference between their room grades then in Super Deluxe room you can definitely play football. They have also good parking lot, bar and also provide free dormitory for the drivers.

Generally they provide off season discount. After the online payment you may need to pay some local taxes which was about 10% of the total amount but I got a 10% discount form them (if you stay there more than 2 days then only you get this). The check in and check out time was 9 in the morning.

Overall it was a good hotel. If you are planning to go to Ooty then don't think for any other Hotel. Definitely you will remember the experience in this hotel and like it, though general belief is that Govt service is not upto the mark.
