I F you were about to give up on watching a good block buster this year, think again as the robots are here and sure they can act better than bruce willis in die hard or kirsten dunst in spiderman .
Micheal bay has learnt from the mistakes of spielberg in war of the worlds, he is bent upon giving us a credible plot with some literary and some childish dialogues but he never lets this rollercoaster go down, even if you find it a little too loud at times, your hormones will glue you to your seats throughout this summers best fun ride, THE movie never tries to take itself too seriously and thats where it suceeds as its not pretending to be a masterpiece but just itself and the ingeniousness cant be denied even though you know its predictable, yet you are immensely interested in the script and the characters are charming whether robots or human beings, in the end they all triumph in a way to make you hold your breath and I dont mean you have to have an asthmatic attack .
it will be inappropriate to try to find any deep meanings or symbolism in a well made moral thriller which stages a battleground for the two species of robots who land on our mother earth seeking an elusive cube which will give total power to who ever has the guts to win it over .
Of course its a battle between the good and evil with the bad robots called deceptions and you will have to spend some money to know the names of the good ones .
they are called autobots
At the heart of this is la boeuf as sam who has no clue that he has the information to lead him to the precious cube in the form of a rusty little yellow car called bumble bee who is an auto bot in disguise sent to be sams guardian, now by this time folks im sure you know what happens next as the bad robots wreck havoc and the good ones try to save the world and humanity, but the movie is not one dimensional like the rest of the summer offerrings, it packs An emotional punch which is to the writers and directors credit, as well as the excellent cast led by the wonder actor le boeuf .
The comic first half and thehumour are both sceptical and hilarious whereas the seccondhalf thows the best ever hardware and special effects hollywood has to offer on the screen, micheal bay has used his immense budget well as well as the excellentcomic one -liners.
The action is incredible but its in context and doesnt get on your nerves or exhaust you, as you feel satisfied if slightly deaf by the end, but the sound effects have to equal the magnificent CGI as without them both we could not have been blessed with the best sci -fi that hollywood has made since MATRIX, and though not as origonal as that masterpiece, it still has enough guts and blood to give you a steroid boost at the weekend when you require it the most as movies are primarily about entertainment and this is A classic in that respect .
Now some snobbish critics have turned their backs on it and denounced it as micheal bay and his blunder but it was only rex reed who along with his pack of wolves hunts down everything popular, just to prove he knows more then us mere mortals, but tis is a clear victory for us masses as this movie is fun and it has a heart and a brain too, so do not pay much attention to the highbrow intellectuals .
As for flaws apart from the noise you have some sequences which are meant only to please the kids but they are scarce and I will excuse them as everything from hollywood is globally marketed for a huge audience and they do try to please everyone, still this works and its a tribute to the robots who deserve a standing ovation as they are all nearly more realistic and characteristic then most of the so- called intelligent and pseudo intellectual trashy characters we have seen so far this year in a lot of insipid and characterless bonanzas
FLAWED BUT FIRST RATE
