There are a ton of hard disk manufacturers in the market today. A lot of models are available in the rapidly expanding portable storage segment where buyers have varied options for speed and capacity. I came across the Toshiba Canvio Connect II(Model: MQ01UBD100) which offers both with an added benefit. It is a 2.5 inch 1TB HDD with a USB 3.0 interface and 5400 rpm speed. It comes with a 3 year limited warranty and got it from Snapdeal for Rs. 4300. It aims to help move data between the Mac OS and our regular PC equipped with Windows.
It is well known that Mac requires hard drive pre-formatted as NFS+. A few notable brands offer NTFS drivers for those who wish to use portable drives interchangeably between PC and Mac systems. The Canvio Connect II uses the acclaimed Tuxera’s NTFS driver which by itself costs about Rs. 1500 in the market.
The device has an elegant look with its satin gold finish and some LED lights packed away in a corner. The lower side of the drive has a matte finish and rubber feet. It comes with a simple USB 3.0 compatible cable. The HDD has good performance but I experience intermittent speed drops reflected with transfer of mixed files which include pictures, videos, documents, folders and software files which was disappointing.
Overall, a buy if you have to move around data between your two operating systems. Otherwise, there are better options for a lesser price. Kindly rate my review and leave your comments. Cheers!
