Bollywood of 2012!!
Dec 19, 2012 12:32 PM 3846 Views

Now that 2012 is at brink of end, I thought to compile a list of my own, the best 10 movies of the year 2012, and this list is purely by my liking, I didn’t consulted any BO records, or any statistics, if I liked it, I’ve put it in my list, and also, I have chosen only from those movies which I have watched till date (19 Dec 2012), so I can’t comment on movies releasing after this date, though only 1 movie remains to release i.e. Dabangg 2, and I doubt I will like it, since I didn’t liked even the prequel. So here’s my list for you in count-up manner.

1.Kahaani (9th March 2012) – Genre: Drama/Thriller, Director: Sujoy Ghosh, Cast: Vidya Balan, Parambrata Chatterjee. This was one of the best movies I have ever seen in my life, a perfect blend of drama and thrill, sprinkled with a class act of Vidya Balan, direction was top-notch. Music is not so much talked of but the mystery will always remain the plus point for this movie.

2.OMG: Oh My God! (28th Sept 2012) – Genre: Comedy/Religious Issue, Director: Umesh Shukla, Cast: Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar. A trend has been observed, that this year we saw some films which are not starred by big heroes, but some by character artists, here this film is headed by Paresh Rawal, the great artist, and still it tops the chart, reason, wonderful acting, direction, and comedy, which should be termed as sarcastic comedy (vyangya), it throws the light on the business of religion which pundits are doing, and we the common man are just helping them pocketed our hard-earned money. Wonderful presentation. ‘Go Go Go Govinda’ became the chartbuster for the film.

3.Makkhi (12th Oct 2012) – Genre: Action/Fantasy, Director: SS Rajamouli, Cast: An animated fly, Sudeep. This movie should be termed as the path-breaking movie for Indian cinema, since it employed wonderful special effects with equally wonderful plot. Originally made in Telugu language by the superhit director Rajamouli, it was later dubbed in Hindi, the dubbing was near-perfect. It’s a nice action movie, with loads of special-effect to show a house-fly taking revenge from a man. Music was also nice and suitable for the movie.

4.Vicky Donor (20th April 2012) – Genre: Comedy, Director: Shoojit Sircar, Cast: Ayushmann Khurana, Anu Kapoor. Again a comedy movie in my top 10 list, the reason, it’s a well made movie on an issue which was a hard choice for any film-maker – the sperm donation. One can chose the topic, but the movie can lose way and can lead to vulgarity, but here this one was just an out-an-out comedy and watchable for family, brilliant performances by another great character-artist Anu Kapoor, and Ayushmann shows his caliber debuting in the movie. Music was very good, and all the songs are good.

5.Shanghai (8th June 2012) – Genre: Political Thriller, Director: Dibakar Banerjee, Cast: Abhay Deol, Emran Hashmi, Kalki Koechlin, Farooque Sheikh. Dibakar needs no introduction, and he directed this movie too at his caliber, Abhay Deol perfectly suited to his role in this political thriller, striking all the right chords in his acting. Other casts fits too well and special mention for Emran who did a wonderful role, being his 1st of a different role here. Music was also good, and matched with the mood of the movie.

6.Ferrari Ki Sawaari (15th June 2012) – Genre: Drama, Director: Rajesh Mapuskar, Cast: Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani, Ritvik Sahore. A different story and a light-hearted, heart-touching story it is, blended with the common intentions of Indians, the feeling and love about cricket game. A different sports-related movie and it displays the nice family bonding and pure feelings. A must watch this is, though story uses Sachin Tendulkar’s name, and it would be good if he appeared in movie, though it didn’t happened. Songs are good and hummable.

7.Ishaqzaade (11th May 2012) – Genre: Romantic Drama, Director: Habib Faisal, Cast: Arjun Kapoor, Parineeta Chopra. A sudden change of genre for the director from the family drama of ‘Do Dooni Char’ to the raw romantic drama ‘Ishaqzaade’ didn’t affected the treatment or the direction, and a wonderful tapori romantic film is born, which have its villages raw feel intact. New actors prove their worth and wonderful music to support with, what else a viewer wanted.

8.Paan Singh Tomar (2nd March 2012) – Genre: Biographical, Director: Tigmanshu Dhulia, Cast: Irrfan, Mahie Gill. The director of the movie Tigmanshu doesn’t need any introduction, he has a style of his own, and he showed the same skills here as well in this superbly made movie. This time it’s a biography on a great athlete-turned-dacoit ‘Paan Singh Tomar’, and Irrfan played it wonderfully, all the feel of the locations intact, and everything works perfect for this movie, music and songs didn’t find any place in this movie. Being such a good movie, this one fares at no.8 because of points I gave in my reviews and since there are many movies with the same ratings.

9.Barfi! (14th Sept 2012) – Genre: Romantic Comedy, Director: Anurag Basu, Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Ileana D’Cruz. One of the best performances given by Priyanka and Ranbir in this movie, where Priyanka played an autistic girl and Ranbir plays a deaf-mute boy, and a lovely relationship establishes between them, it’s a beautiful movie comparable with a poem, and a must-watch for everyone, wonderfully directed, and supported by nice music too. But inspired from too many movies and being a lengthy and somewhat confused affair downed its ratings, but still it was named as the ‘Official entry of Indian Film to Oscars’.

10.English Vinglish (5th Oct 2012) – Genre: Drama, Director: Gauri Shinde, Cast: Sridevi, Mehdi Nebbou, Adil Hussain. Debuting director finest attempt I must say here, and it also marks the comeback of yesteryear top heroine Sridevi, and it’s a perfect outing for a family, all te flavours of a family drama is presented. Nice music given by Amit Trivedi.

Talaash (30th Nov 2012) – Genre: Suspense Thriller, Director: Reema Kagti, Cast: Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Well Talaash tied at 10th spot, as I don’t want to put an Aamir movie out of the list, maybe I am biased, but nonetheless, movie has that thing which was required for a movie to enchant the viewer, and its an AAMIR KHAN movie, nice mystery sum up the starting song of the movie, is a must watch.

So this is my list of Top 10 Bollywood movies of 2012, and I hope it includes many of your favourites too, but there are many other movies worth watching which could not find a place in my list, which are as listed below in no particular order-:

Players (a remake of ‘The Italian Job (new)), Agneepath (remake of old movie of same name, worth watching for Sanjay Dutt as ‘Kancha Cheena’), Gali Gali Chor Hai (a social issue and real background), Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya (a sweet love story of a newly-wedded pair), Department (RGV’s touch of politics), Rowdy Rathore (a south remake and full of masti and good songs), Cocktail (dancing music tunes and good time pass), Ek Tha Tiger (Kabir Khan, and some nice stunt scenes in middle asia), Heroine (Kareena’s acting and a black truth about the film industry), Chakravyuh (A nice story told by Prakash Jha about naxalites, well acted by everybody), Luv Shuv Te Chicken Khurana (comedy with Punjabi mitti di khushboo), Jab Tak Hai Jaan (a big romantic saga, last film by legendary Yash Chopra), Teri Meri Kahaani (nice concept)
