In a family of 4, with two adults out for the last week, with just me and my baby and my maid to ccok for, I was definitely feeling lazy- to get up, to go to office, to cook and even to eat! Last evening, the mother in me guiltily made a veg side dish for my baby, which he gulped down with curd. That left just me(my maid having left for the day).
I ventured out to my corner store to buy veggies, when I espied Kitchens of India's Murg Methi lying delectably in the sidestand and beckoning Ms. Lazybones.
That decided me- tonight was going to be Murg Methi and Kerala Porottas(which is also available in that store as a pack of 5- to just heat up and eat) Lazy old me walked back home jauntily with a video cd of Vallavan(now therein lies another review, brrrr!).
I took it out, I put it in a dish, I heated it on the stove for 5 minutes. Since it was chicken, I put in 2 spoons of water and simmered it for another 2 minutes for good measure. Side by side, the porottas were also getting heated. I sat on the floor cushion, plate on my lap. On the plate were a porotta and a generous helping of Murg Methi. Folks! It was delicious. Almost like I had ordered it from one of my favourite restaurants- Treat in Indira Nagar.
The chicken was tender and well soaked in whatever spices KOI had put in. The gravy was delicious. Altogether it made for a most fulfilling meal. It was nice and spicy, so I didn't offer my son any, tho' he did look curiously at the sight of me licking my fingers. I have had my share of ready-to-eats(tho I'd only experimented with veg stuff till date). To be very honest, I had found some a disappointment, so that I only bought it as a last resort.
But Kitchens of India have changed my mind somewhat. The taste was authentic, the quantity was enough for 3(it lasted me thru dinner and thru lunch the next day, with breakfast thrown in for my maid). Only the cost was perhaps a little on the higher side, at Rs. 98/- I would have been able to order a dish for Rs. 60-70/- outside. But then, I wouldn't have had it delivered for less than a total order of 100/-, so I guess it was alrite.
By the way, at office the smell of murg and methi having permeated thru the air-conditioned environment, my colleagues also dipped their fingers and licked and pronounced it fine. And all expressed surprise when I told them it was from Kitchens of India. Two days later, I tried out another dish of theirs- Chicken Darbari, which was also very good, tho' not as good as the Murg Methi. I intend trying out their biriyani once, hope that also brings out the gastric juices.
