Shameless sea, aimlessly so blue
Jul 28, 2006 04:59 PM 3911 Views

This aptly defines media- shameless sea(media), aimlessly so blue(poweful)

Sometimes I wonder why we have'd given so much authority to the media that they could decide what is important for us and what is not.

Wasn't  the media suppossed to be a beautiful lady bringing out ugly demons of our society in public?

Or a spooky lady commending the charming-self of our society? Whatever this multi-facet lady was born to do, the least we expected of it was to fill the 24-hour space on squeaky 21 inch idiot box.

But, so stupid are we that we can make out between chalk and cheese and most of the time damn- media serve us chalk as cheese and we happily consume us like a dish from heaven.

Among the sea of  "I-choose-s-you-eat-it" stories by dozen news channels across the polluted airwaves and dished out through those umbrella shaped dishes here are few to scratch your head and wonder, is it worth watching these prime-time stories or better go and watch Mithun Chkrobarty's latest brawny flick.

I guess I can give you three instances where media went over-board on little "passable" things just because they thought it was important for us. In short they made mountain out of a mole hill.

A) Prince ko bachana hai -  This one probably challanged India's ego -(dnt be surprised if you catch  it in SHabaash India! next week's show). Do we have enough guts to save a little kid who went to graveyard a bit too early. This one surely made us feel united as we watched uninteruppted(with exceptions of few 555 bidi ads in between) for almost 50 hours. What the heck we would have contributed by watching those over-dressed under-intellect news anchors going over-board with superlatives for the Prince and his parents, who looked astonished " Are they sure that its our son Prince, or they are mistaking it to be Prince Williams of Wales." And, for their share of publicity few industrialist came out commending the effort by the little child(ANd mind you not the army ppl) and in return presented a "princely" some of one lakh - the only difference is they dint mention it but they meant it almost "KEEP THE CHANGE". A sum of one lakh for coming live on dozen 24 hour news channel.advertisement cant get cheaper than this. And, to stress that they arent funds-crunched either, ZEE news did support the child's education. Must say - media knows where to put their money;).

B) Mika-Rakhi kissie -  ALthough bollywood movies do put those fragrant flowers to keep us engrossed while hero-heroin are doing their share of muah -muah, but there is no stopping media from showing the desperation of two least paid performers of Bollywood(If they belong their). Again, media knew that since porn isnt what Indians are grown up with and only source of sleaze that we get is late in the night directly in our bedrooms, probably a reality sleaze show would do wonders and thats what it has done. Every Shakila(South INdian porn star) fan would have called it C-grade desperatio, not just by bro-sis duo of Mika, Rakhi but also by dozen odd news channels, as they telecasted it through out d day like some republic day parade. And, trust me if anyone gets turn on by the Mika-Rakhi jodi they must go and visit SEELAMPUR(a slum in Delhi) they may find more good-luking couple probably with better speaking skills.

C) Reality shows- Dnno what to call this. But, sure they are pushing the sale of glycerine. You find these reality shows on all channels and in all genres - you ask for it and you get it

a reality show comprising -

100 old men(65+) trying to titillate one pretty 50 year old woman. One man will get out of race for the elusive lady every week(Ofcourse followed by all 99 participants+ 3 judges+ 2 hosts+ 50 odd audience crying at the end of every episode remembering all the seduction that the out-going participant taught to the billion plus population of our country) and next, day you get the interview of the person LIVE aND EXCULSIVE on all damn channels with questions like "How does he feels on going out of the race? And, you still have a chance of bringing back you fav participant by calling on certain 16 digit number or SMSng for that guy. PS Only for Idea customers, the person with maximum SMSs will get a year's supply of VIAGARA absolutly free.

I guess I can count enless incidents where media thought we were brain less and could eat anything they serve for us. I guess its time now that we tell media that we understand he difference bewtween good and bad and god's sake STOP PLAYING GOD!

If there is some incicdent you would like to mention about the foolishness of media, COmments section beckons you.

SPare errors - I Dint revise it!
