Reservations and Media

The hot news in every news-paper is the new reservation act that might/might not get implemented.Something that has become'happening'. Teasing the SC-ST and OBC students on the basis of reservations has become cool.

About The Act

Let me tell you something about the bill that has been submitted in the Parliament. The existing reservations for the Obc students is 22% or somewhere close to it in the govt. recognised institutes like IIT and IIM.The rule passed earlier was that the reservations should not exceed 50% keeping the quality of eduction and the population of the students belonging to this category in mind.

The objective of the bill is to increase the reservations by 49.5% so that the above rule is abided and the reservations is still increased to its maximum.

The bill suggests in implementing the reservations in the following manner:

If a student belonging to non-reserved category say Mr.X gets marks just above the cut-off in the examination but the number of seats in the reserved category is not filled. Then another student who belongs to the reserved category getting lesser marks might higher rank thus getting admission leaving Mr.X looking for admission somewhere-else.

The Hype and the discrimination that follows

The media is making too much out of this situation.I had went to write my JEE exam yesterday at the Kirti college in Dadar along with my friend whom I am not going to name. As soon as the first exam viz. Physics got over a friend of mine decides of having a warm brunch over the beach nearby and has some worries about the next examination. But unfortunately the journalists drop in trying to interview as many students as possible. My friend was one among those unfortunates who got interviewes. This is what they ask'How was your exam?' the first question seems to be alright and very polite so the student says'It went well'.Bamm the next thing you know that they are asking you'What do you think about the quota bill that has been submitted to the Lok Sabha?'.

Come on man leave the students alone go ask any politician or ask the students after the examination is over. But NO they want to ask it right away. You might think that they are concerned about the students and the examination but surprising answer is a BIG NO but the answer is that they are concerned about how much money they get by the coverage. They create maximum possible hype about the situation. Now back to my friend this guy is an OBC student and when he says so to the journalists the next thing these irresponsible people say is'Oh! so you are the beneficiary here' looking at him as though he is the most ugliest creature in the is world and turns away to find another prey for their story.

I was so disgusted by this irresponsible behavior of theirs. The friend that I am talking about was almost into tears.Well I could say that because I am a very close friend of his and I could tell it from the look in his face. This all important examination could have gone pretty bad for him because of this one single comment by the Journalist. We all tried consoled him but all in vain.He is a very smart student and we all expected him crack the examination. He was not satisfied with the exams and does not expect to clear the exam this was probably because of those Fu**ing journalist. They damped everything - His dreams, his ambition and his pride

The problem is that people now-a-days act upon whatever is published on the newspapers and/or whatever is shown by the NDTV people. The media however is making most of the situation by doing such unwarranted work. They do not want the bill to be abolished with concern of the general Well-Being of the students but want the exactly opposite thing to happen. They want protests Lathicharge and inshort violence to take place so that they might have more students to prey upon and have more people watching their shows and/or Reading their papers. This is totally unfair.

Finally the people who suffer are the same students who got in through the reservation. They are subject references such as as Ghats and other such unwarranted names. The govt. and ofcourse the media might thus end up aiding the discrimination. The govt. might end up aiding the discrimination by passing the bill. But the media is way ahead. They have already started the discrimination.

My sincere request

So my sincere request to all others is that please do not act upon what the media says.Analyse the situation yourself and make the proper decision.Protest against the bill but do not look down upon the OBC candidates even for that matter the SC-ST candidates. Even the OBC candidated are against the pass of this bill.So let us join hands with them in the protest.

PS: I was confused as to where to post this article written by me.I felt that this was the most suitable place to post it.

Thankyou for reading and any views and suggestions are welcome.

Yours sincerely .Shiva
