Time is a long established news weekly published from the USA. This 70 page weekly is strong on current affairs, indeed that really is its ''bread and butter''. Each issue will have a dozen or so feature articles covering diverse topics such as technology, international relations, trade, aid, economcs, finance, business, religion and the arts.
A recent issue,eg, has a number of stories devoted to the on going war against terrorism. There is a feature on Mullah Mohammed Omar, the leader of the Taliban, another entitled, '' Make Love,Then War' which basically suggests it would be best to initially feed the Afghans and win their hearts and minds .
There are a number of articles looking at the investigations taking place into terrorism and three major stories under World. These include a article on Saudi Arabia, another dealing with the ban on beef in Japan and a further piece which looks at the issues and problems facing Pakistan.
The magazine has a letters section and an interesting section called World Watch. This contains a couple of dozen small news items from around the world. There are short pieces on Macedonia, Turkey, Zimbabwe, the Opposition victory in Bangladesh, Refugee problems in Nauru and a 100 word news item concerning the plane crash near the Black Sea. Another section Travel Watch contains short pieces on travels as well as links to travel web sites.
Time certainly does not overlook the arts. There is usually a review of a book or books, a story on music or a major musical event and a article on some aspect of entertainment. A recent issue looked at how Japan's Kano sisters have taken the world by storm. The back page is devoted to an essay, usually around 1,000 words in length and there is also a page devoted to people in the news.
Time is easily found at bookstores around the world although its subscription price is much lower than its retail price. All in all it is a good read, particularly if you enjoy reading current affairs and it has a wide geographical coverage.
