It was 3 AM and I was not sleepy. So I tuned in to HBO to see if any good movie was on. Some movie called 'Ginger Snaps' was in its last 20 minutes section. It was crappy, but I was watching it anyway. Then it ended, the HBO-heavy voice guy who does the ''next on hbo'' thingy said ''Next on HBO, a story about a woman torn between her passion for dancing and the life she always dreamt of - The Way She Moves''. I was like ''thank God, some movie about dance~''. So, I started watching. The movie goes like this - Amy ( played by Annabeth Gish ), a photographer by profession is quite happily engaged to Jason ( an ambitious stockbroker ).
One day, Amy's office colleagues present her with a gift-certificate for Salsa dance lessons and Amy is quite excited at the thought of she and Jason learning salsa together. Jason, who is not really interested in the dance lessons breaks the commitment of attending two classes/week. Amy is totally fascinated with Salsa and specially with the instructor Nicholas Gonzales ( played beautifully by Kamar De Los Reyes, my new love ).
Nicholas, a two-time puerto rican salsa dance champion is an elementary school teacher in the day and a salsa dance instructor in the night. He has a spat with his partner Christina ( Tessie Santiago ) and refuses to take part in the next dance festival. Christina is pissed and she dares Nicholas to find a partner ( for an important dance exhibit ) from the beginner-dancers, she points at Amy and dares Nicholas to ''Make her look good''. Nicholas encourages Amy who is struggling with her moves and genuinely helps her be better and soon she becomes a part of the prestigious dance-company. With that, Nicholas announces that he is going to participate in the Annual dance fest and partner Amy. They are attracted to each other and find it hard to control their feelings but there is one thing between them - Amy's engagement ring.
During all this, Jason accepts a job offer in New York without talking to Amy about it and when Amy talks to him about it, he says ''You don't have to work now~'' very casually. Amy realises that she can never be happy with him because all Jason thinks about is his work and gives no importance to her needs. Whereas Nicholas is everything she desires, deserves and needs. Amy is confused and lost - she has no idea which man to go for. Her friends say that men like Nick come only in fairytales and she shouldn't get too serious for him & settle for the cute & rich Jason instead.
Whereas, on the wedding day, Amy's mother tells her to marry the man she is ''in love'' with. The wedding day is incidentally the day of THE dance festival. Yes! Amy leaves Jason open-mouthed at the altar to perform with Nick and makes his as well as her dreams come true , Happy Ending Cute story, emotional at some places, funny at times.
AMAZING choreography by Kenny Ortega who also choreographed Dirty Dancing. I am madly in love with Kamar De Los Reyes since .... the time I saw him ~move~. For the women and gay-men : The way HE moves is amazing. A fantastic dancer, a passionate actor, one of the sexiest men I've seen on TV. The way he speaks makes me drool, literally.
For the men and gay-women : The way SHE moves is sensual. If I was a lesbian, I wouldn't mind doing her. Hey, not a bad actress either. I'm definitely going to watch it again. And hey, don't curse me if you don't like the movie. ~To each his own~
