One of the reasons I like M.Night Shyamlan's movies is because all his movies are highly philosophical. It would not be a hyperbole if he is branded as the maker of philosophical films rather than being a maker of thrillers.

And if you are wondering what am I talking about?, then go and watch The Village right away. It will be then you will realise that the 'horror' element in M.Night's movies is highly incidental.

The Village:

So what is The Village all about? In this movie the director has chosen 'innocence' as the theme. 'Ignorance is bliss' they say and so can innocence be, but when we delibrately decide to be innocent it can prove to be fatal. Thus the 'Elders' of The Village have conciously decided to create and live in a world of innocence, burying their pasts and with it the reality. If what I am blabbering here doesn't make any sense, please go and catch the movie now!

The Cast:

Oscar winner Adrein Broody gives a wonderful performance as Noah. He is the real face of 'dangerous innocence'. Joaquain Phoenix is one of the few brave people who don't want to believe blindly in whatever system they live in. And what can be said about Bryce Howard. In the system called The Village, Bryce is a person blessed with ability to see what others cant. Ironically she is blind in the movie. I wont be surprised if she wins an Oscar nomination for her role.

The philosophy:

The Village is a mirror to what is happening around us, but its very subtle.

We want to live in world where no evil and no crime can exist. And whatever sins are committed, we want to ignore them or blame it on something imaginary or on something beyond our comprehension. Interpret The Village whichever way you want to.....I choose to interpret it this way. Again I say, if you find this review a crap.....do watch the movie. Believe me its that good.

Please note: This review is my interpretation of the movie and I may be highly

wrong. Please feel free to correct me with your comments and suggestions. Enjoy!
