Movies have become very guessable! Frankly speaking, before watching the movie I was not aware that it is written by Tigmanshu Dhulia and after coming to know the fact I was disappointed.
Movie making has become an expensive affair now days and directors must understand this, making anything is always an option but sticking to “Keep It Simple” is a tough task and for this I really miss Munnaibhai kind of filmmaking. Shaukeens starts on a hilarious note but it fails in maintaining momentum and it kills the overall fun.
All three actors are fantastic and have done justification to their roles. Annu kapoor has played a good role in portraying “Tharki Buddha”, Anupam Khair is given a bit serious role and he does it well, Piyush Mishra is classy and gets into role perfectly. Akshay Kumar tries to create momentum in film but I will be giving 5/10 to him. Probably it’s not his mistake rather role does not allow him to perform better. Let me not talk about Lisa Hyden, I feel she still belongs to the non—actor community chaired by Sunny Leone, and other members are Katreen Kaif, Nargis fakhri etc.
Something on plot- Various films are made on this kind of plot so there is nothing new, the point of difference could be the story and its execution, Shaukeens does not score high on this, and the rhythm breaks here and there. The most irritating was Lisa Hyden’s cry and exuberance to meet Akhshay Kumar which is fine of you do it once or twice but the ways its iis executed throughout the movie became irritating and you feel like throwing stone on screen. It is an example of how filmmakers are lacking in having scenes for story. The way it is stretched there is a point in time where you feel like “is Shaukeens directed by a Daily Soap’s director?”
Songs were inserted without any logic which spoils the power of even sporadic fine music. Manali Trance contains good music but the timing was wrong and it is the only incidence where Lisa Hyden could perform. Overall The Shaukeens is just a onetime watch and that too if you have fine amount of money to spare with 2 hours of weekend time. Otherwise my suggestion is to avoid.
