Time and again, Hollywood does it and how good, you can simply stare at the screen and wonder, what makes up their director’s and writers mind? Is it simply celluloid material or some over-the-earth stuff which most of our Bollywood counterparts seriously lack?
Nominated and winner of the Best movie and Best actor award at the Oscar, The Revenant stars Leonardo Di Caprio and Tom Hardy in the lead roles. Receiver of the best movie awards in majority of the award shows, The Revenant is one of the most praised Hollywood movies of 2015. The movie, which hit Indian theatres recently has been successfully garnering praise throughout.
Story – The Revenant is a revenge story of a fur tapper and frontiersman Hugh Glass who is left in the wild by his team. In order to survive the wild, Glass utilizes his survival skills to combat any obstacles that the jungle has to offer in the form of perilous wild animals, poisonous trees and the blood-freezing winter cold. He is in pursuit of the person, John Fitzgerald, who betrayed him in the hands of death to avenge his struggle.
Performance – A movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy doesn’t need a review or evaluation because we all know what they are capable of. Inception was one masterpiece starring the two and still continues to be among the masterpiece of movies ever made. Leonardo Di Caprio as the vengeance seeking Hugh Glass is every bit worth the Oscar and is truly beyond praise. Tom Hardy as the antagonist, is just another bad guy with superb acting skills. We all remember the powerful Bane from Dark Knight Rises. And the angry small brother from the Warrior movie whose remake was in Bollywood Brothers. The other cast members are equally good but our lead actor steals the show. It’s a complete Leonardo show and just like all his movies, Leo rocks this time and too hard for that matter.
Scenes to watch out for –
The movie depicts a fight between the male lead actor and a humongous bear. The fight scene has been depicted next to reality and the way Leonardo struggles to dodge the deathly blows to keep up with the wild beast and ultimately finishes it is every bit a praise from my side. Though he is mutilated by the bear, he is able to finish it at the end. The entire scene was carried out by VFX experts and is a highlight of the film. It is one of the best fight scenes between a VFX character and a person ever made till date.
Final Verdict – Do not think, just go and watch it. It’s an Oscar winning movie and for that matter, deserves to be viewed once for sure. It is one of the masterpiece of Hollywood that should not be missed. Definitely recommended.
