I try not to miss the Oprah Winfrey Show when I can,it airs at 10.30 am(india)from monday to friday on Star World.There are many reasons why I like to watch it--
1.Oprah Winfrey herself-Now here is a woman I respect & admire(read her life story-you`ll know why.)Today she has fame,power,wealth,It is difficult to believe that this confident,intelligent,witty,humble and highly emotional person was once a battered,abused,black child.She has succeeded in her life because of her sheer will power.She features among Time magazine`s most influential people.
2.The concept of the show-this is basically a chat show,where a live audience is present,celebrities are invited to discuss a particular topic with inputs from the audience.What makes this talk show stand out is that the celebrities here are common people with a story in their life.People are invited to share their stories-some good,some bad,some ordinary,some extraordinary.A panel of experts is usually involved in the discussion.So one day you may see Oprah talking to people who want to refurnish their homes within a fixed budget but dont know how to ,so experts will help them with that,but on another day you may see something serious like parents who have lost their children to accidents.Whatever the topic it is interesting because it is about real people,real issues ,actually it is a study on human behaviour.
3.Experts like Gary Zukav(author of The Seat of the soul),Dr. Phil are invited and they speak very well.The best part is the feature ''remembering your spirit''at the end of each show.This is about looking within and reaching out to your soul,about ordinary people who have gained happiness by giving to others,about the simple pleasures of life.
Sometimes there are fun shows like Oprah`s favourite things where the audience gets lots of gifts.Sometimes a good book is discussed,other times actors,performers are invited.The best shows are the surprise ones where Oprah reunites long lost friends,famliy members on the show itself,that is really touching.Oprah`s company does a lot of charity work and she has donated a lot of money for the benefit of others and that is really credible.
I am recommending this show because it will stir up your emotions and will definitely give you something to think about.
