Whenever my kids see me walking toward the cabinet where the videos are kept, the give each other a knowing look that says, ''There she goes again.''. They know I am likely take out my Nutty Professor tape. I am not a great movie fan, except for some of the older classic movies but this is one movie I can still enjoy and laugh at again and again. When I first saw this movie I laughed so hard I thought I would explode!
Eddie Murphy has outdone himself in this one. He not only plays the main character, Professor Sherman Klump, but also plays several other characters. He does so with such skill that the characters never overlap. The makeup in this movie is also excellent. A person not aware that Murphy is playing more than one character might not be able to tell.
The main premise involves Professor Klump and his desire to reduce his weight, mainly triggered by his attraction to fellow-professor Carla Purdy, played by Jada Pinkett Smith. In his attempt to accomplish this weight loss, he stumbles upon a formula that can instantly make him trim. The drawback is that Professor Klump's formula changes him into the slick and somewhat shady Buddy Love, almost an exact opposite of the professor in looks as well as personality.
The interaction of these characters, as well as the rest of the Klump family and several minor characters, is the basis for the movie. It is really hilarious, despite a few rather risque touches. I really recommend this movie for anyone who wants to laugh--again and again.
