We begin outside the Egyptian city of Thebes with two armies arrayed before its walls. One is that of the Scorpion King (The Rock), an army that has been undefeated for seven years. Unfortunately the sands of time have run out for this all conquering general and his army is forced into the desert.

The Scorpion King is the last of the army to survive and as a result he makes a hideous pact with Anubis, God of the Underworld. The pact is simple but grotesque the Scorpion Kings soul in exchange for victory over his earthly enemies. Anubis even provides the army to do it with. Once the task is complete the Scorpion King has to pay up and only leaves fireside tales of his legend behind.

Cue a timewarp of a mere five thousand years (nothing much) and once more we are presented with Evie and Rick now married (no real surprise) and their incredibly resourceful ten year old son. During their exploration of the tomb that they are exploring they come across a locked chest. On investigation it contains a bracer in the form of a scorpion.

Having survived the amazing inept attempts of the opposition to retrieve the chest from their possession we are next transported to 1930’s London where strangeness takes on a new guise…..

Trailed to their hugely imposing home the O’Connells are soon under attack by the entourage of the man who trying to raise Imhotep at Hamunaptra (the City of the Dead). This then leads to a pleasantly diverting skirmish in the British Museum of all places and an astonishingly well shot chase sequence through the streets of London in of all things a double decker bus.

To reveal more will spoil the plot such as it is of the main part of the film so my description will stop here.

Did I enjoy the film?

The only answer I can give to this question is yes. It is two hours of pure escapism and as a result hugely enjoyable, however don’t go to this film expecting be stunned with enthralling plot because you will not get it. This is a film that that has the good grace to admit to what it is, a good adventure film with glorious special effects.
