The Lord of the Rings trilogy is the masterpiece that the new Star Wars Trilogy should have been.

Lord of the Rings is destined to be the great epic that captures the imagination of this generation - a tale of heroism, honour, friendship, love, mythical beasts and beautiful maidens - focusing around the most unlikely hero on those shoulders comes to rest the fate of Middle Earth.

The Ring, The Ring of Power, the concept in itself is fantastic, the fate of an entire world down to the power of a single item, an item so powerful that great wizards and warriors fear to touch it, lest it corrupt them and bend them to its will. As hinted at in the epic beginning of the film there is a lot more to the story of the Ring, and as the film joins the story in the Third Age, there is much about its history that can only be guessed at.

The characters are suitably complex and each changes as the story progresses subtlely showing the power of the Ring affecting them by its mere proximity. Boromir of course cannot resist its call. The contrast between Boromir and Aragorn is well done, one a King and one a Steward, Aragorns strength of character reveals his kingly traits and is a character whom you grow to like more and more as the film progresses and by the end he has your heart as he kindly forgives Boromir upon his death.

My favourite character has to be Legolas - the guy is so composed and so lethal with an array of weapons, yet despite his superior abilities he has much honour and respect for his elders. There is indeed much to be learned from each character.

Peter Jackson, the director, has truly achieved what was thought to be impossible, he has done a great story of our time the justice it deserves and devoted 3 years of his life to bring it to us.

Imagine if all films were made with this much passion and attention to detail? All those hollywood directors with 100s of millions in budgets churning out utter crap like Waterworld (100m+), Gone in 60 Seconds, Broken Arrow (I could go on all day...)

If anyone has read the book (and if not then I throughly recommend the time investment to do so) then you will know the best parts of the story are yet to come a few tasters that won't spoil it look out for: the Spider Queen Shelob, the Treemen, the Paths of the Dead, the fortress of Baradur and Gollum.

The Two Towers is released on 18th Dec and I for one will be there.
