The Juror - ~A woman in danger is a dangerous woman~
This film is simply great. The Juror has a solid starcast with Demi Moore, Alec Baldwin as the main characters. The film was produced by Irwin Winkler and Rob Cowan. It was released in 1996.
Basically, it was an action thriller. Story is quite straightforward. Movie starts with the killing of a man and an adoloescent. There is a case which follows in the next chapter and a panel of jurors are selected (firstly interviewed, then selected) to give the final verdict in the trial of that powerful mobster incriminated.
The Mafia plays an important role in the beginning itself. It hires `The Teacher` (played by Alec Baldwin), who`s a phsycopath to do simply anything it takes to get atleast one of the jurors on a total of about tweleve, to say `NOT GUILTY`, and so vote for acquittal.
`The Teacher` instantly chooses Annie (Demi Moore) to be his victim. He does it strategically as he constantly gathers as much information as he can on her. She divorced, and has a son who she loves the most, which makes it a super easy task for `the Teacher`. He blackmails Annie all way through the movie, and she`s being prone to his obsessive and highly-unpredictable behaviour. Annie`s life is also in great danger as `the Teacher` falls in love with her and admits protecting her from the MAFIA......until.................the climax starts!!!!
This is in my opinion, one of Demi Moore`s best films. She performs Annie`s role with the right expressions and It has been superbly directed, with good picturisations and sharp image. This is a highly thrilling movie which gives WHAT BOLLYWOOD IS UNABLE to deliver; that is an original and thrilling atmosphere.
DVD features are not really like what is expected. Only basic options like languages (both hearing impaired and subtitles) and chapters are available. The trailers are quite misleading in my opinion, mostly because the wrong scenes were added, making it look like a drama instead of a suspence thriller. This is also a highly commercial movie, which has absolutely nothing to be dramatised about!
However it has been highly underrated and misunderstood by the critics and mass-public, because of many controversies surrounding it`s production and the time of release. At some point, The Juror was released as a drama, but the material clearly isn`t that at all!!! Other possible reasons could be that there may not be many people who like the star cast, and controversial reviews about the production team published at that time.
The Juror is an adult movie. It has an international VISA 18 CERTIFICATE attributed to it, because of it`s suspence genre, excessive violence and especially dark nature throughout the movie.
That is why, I recommend this movie for viewing once or twice, but having said that, think thrice before buying The Juror on DVD!.
This movie is gonna thrill ya, so rent it straight away, dude!
