I am an avid Science Fiction Reader. Having read Michael Chrichton and Arthur Clarke's Books I thought to give H G Wells a try. And what better book could I start with!
So I bought "The Invisible Man".
Considering the fact that it was written way back in 1900's this book is really imaginative.
It has all the ingredients of a well written Science Fiction book.Keep in mind that 1900's was the era of Scientific Inventions and Discoveries.
The book is a short one considering todays average sized science fiction books. It is most suitable for reading during journeys.
Analysis:-
The story starts in a small village called Iping in some part of Britain. This is a story about a Scientist who takes on a mission of achieving the impossible , making a man invisible. And after lot of hardships and sacrifices he finally achieves it. He makes himself Invisible.
But he had never thought about the disadvantages of having this gift. And so the book begins with his life after his Invisbility and moves back in time in conversations to illustrate his story. Slowly his gift takes over his mind and he begans using it only for selfish reasons. He increasingly becomes selfish and inhuman. And finally he plans to have a "Reign of Terror" in which he can take over his country and make people obey his orders. And kill those who don't obey them.
But before he could start his mission he fumbles upon his one time junior who considers this Invisible Man a threat to Society after knowing his motives and helps Police to hunt him down.
And so after a series of happenings he is finally hunted by the people and killed.
Thus ends this book. But its the subtle nuances of the story telling prowess of H G Wells that still lingers in your mind even after this. He creates some of the scenes live in front of you and takes you back to the old 19th century world.
I really loved reading this book. The Portrayal of the central character is perfect and you can understand each and every emotion and feelings of his while reading the book.Such is the simplicity of the writer.
Having finished this book , I would really like to read "The Time machine" by the same author.
