As a child I had always shown a keen interest in books (story, encyclopedias). Growing up made me get bored of fairy tales and other small stories. I needed some action and excitement. I had read a few abridged books on Sherlock Holmes which soon caught my interest. I thought of buying a few unabridged versions of the series, but was unable to get them. This was when I stumbled upon The Famous Five (Five Find-Outer) series. There are 15 mystery stories in the series.
The series revolver around Five (Fatty, Larry, Pip, Daisy, Bets) kids and a pet dog (Buster) who have a thirst for adventure. They stumble upon mysteries which they try to solve before the cruel village policeman Goon can do so and are always successful in their task.
The five children come across mysteries when they are together during vacation. Nothing eer seems to happen when they are at boarding school away from home. The story in almost all series begins with the children enjoying their vacation untill some wierd incident occurs in their neighbourhood. The policeman gives up hope of finding a solution to the mystery, but the five children are determined to do so. They look for clues and maintain a record of clues and suspects with them. Eventually, the mystery ends up with a surprising finish.
The stories are very interesting and help you build your imagination but have a very dull start. It gets interesting as you proceed, but still becomes dull due to addition of not-so-important scenes. Ideal for children in the early teens. Language is also easy to understand.
The books are really entertaining if you have a like for mysteries.
