The Division Bell is a studio album released by Pink Floyd in 1994, the United Kingdom..This album marked the
era of David Gilmour as the lead performer...
Opinion is divided as to the artistic quality of the album. Many fans believe that in the absence of bassist and lyricist Roger Waters it lacks the lyrical depth and conceptual coherence that previous albums had, and as such is a weaker effort. It is argued that had The Division Bell been released at some point before this period and not in the shadow of the Waters era. Others are of the opinion that it marks a successful return to the days before Water's almost total artistic domination of the band from Animals through to The Final Cut. Before this period, David Gilmour stated that the music and lyrics were in balance, and the importance of the music
was understood.
While some songs can be interpreted as references to the past relationship problems between Pink Floyd members, especially the estrangement between David Gilmour and Roger Waters, Gilmour denies that the album is an allegory to the split and acknowledges only ''a couple of hinted mentions that could or could not have something to do with him (Waters)''
SOMETHING UNTOLD ABOUT THIS ALBUM:
So that you should know this album got it's name as The Division Bell from one of the legendary writer named Doughlas Adams...His book Hitchhicker's Guide To the galaxy might be known by each on of us....
The song ''Marooned'' was awarded a Grammy in the category of Best Rock Instrumental Performance at the Grammy
Awards of 1995. This has been Pink Floyd's only Grammy to date.
Marooned & Cluster One:
It is an instrumental track on Pink Floyd's 1994 album The Division Bell.It is a music composed by David Gilmour and Richard Wright..These songs are very good to listen when you want to relax your nerves...(The track
was given a Grammy Award in 1995..)
What do You Want From Me:
This song keeps asking questions to Roger Waters, about as the title itself suggests ''What else do you require when I've given everything I can''...This can be observed explicitly from the note
'...Should I sing until I can't sing any more
Play these strings until my fingers are raw
You're so hard to please
What do you want from me'
Or from
'...Do you think that I know something you don't know
What do you want from me'
About the song...It starts right away with a solo performance by the guitarist (This guy David, has made the song a must listen)...It is then followed by an awesome lyrics composed by Gilmour himself..
Poles Apart:
Pink Floyd are always known for making songs which have messages hidden I inbetween the superb music(Please listen to 'Time' and 'Learning To fly' these songs convey far reaching messages..Their all-famous song Another Brick in The Wall criticises the then Education system)..This song is also one of them..
MY TAKE ON THIS SONG:
This song is sort of has a demoralisig effect..It exemplifies the failure made by a person...Instead of correcting the mistake it repents about having taken that particular Job at hand...
'....Did you know ... it was all going to go so wrong for you'
It further says that
'...I never thought that you'd lose that light in your eyes'
Great Day For Freedom:
MY TAKE ON THIS SONG:
This song is taken from a live concert performed by David Gilmour...The song begins with a slow piano playing
in the background and David Gilmour singing 'On the day the wall came down....'This song emphasises the time
when David was not playing in the band (Roger Water's Era..)And then he makes a break through by playing in
after a long time and finds himself being questioned by many about the ability to play the way he did
before(note that he was not whiling away doing nothing during that era.It was only that he was not noticed by
many). The song ends on a happy note
'I woke to the sound of drums
The music played, the morning sun streamed in
I turned and looked at you
And all but the bitter residue slipped away ... slipped away'
saying that when he a started playing he forgets all the criticism...
Wearing The Inside Out:
It starts by a thrilling performance with the saxophone by Dick Parry..
MY TAKE ON THIS SONG:
This song really makes you cry.I've got various views about this song..It is about a person probably in his
death bed or about a person in a very poor state or just probably sick...On another note it could be about
Gilmour(again)re-establishing himself...
Take It Back:
This is the song that marks out this album. With David and Richard composing you could be sure to listen
to a thriller of a song...It is purely an enjoyable song..
MY TAKE ON THIS SONG:
It is a Love song sung by David with a chorus 'She could take it back'.The person loves her so deeply and still betrays her and spys on her..
''...Now I have seen the warnings, screaming from all sides
It's easy to ignore them and God knows I've tried
All of this temptation, it turned my faith to lies
She could take it back(chorus)''
Proves it all..
Coming Back To Life:
This song is taken from the album Pulse..This song strats out slowly and then gathers up speed and then finally
turns into a head-banging song from the line 'I was staring straight into the shining sun...'This song is one
of my favourites from this album I may not provide any informations about this song because it is a song that
you got to listen to praise its beauty..It is indescribably awesome song...(Please listen to this song)
