Well now-a-days my hobby is to download those movies about which other spoke of nicely and asked you to watch, so I've downloaded this movie'The Butterfly Effect' after it was suggested by my colleague and friend. This movie was released in 2004 and belongs to sci-fi psychological thriller genre. It stars Ashton Kutcher & Amy Smart, and is directed by Eric Bress & J.Mackye Gruber.

It is a story of a guy Evan Treborn(John Patrick Amedori/Logan Lerman), who suffers from blackouts since childhood, few minutes blackout about which he dont know, and there is a troubled past of his and his other friends - Kayleigh Miller(Irene Gorovaia/Sarah Widdows), Lenny Kagan(Kevin G.Schmidt/Jake Kaese) & Tommy Miller(Jesse James/Cameron Bright). Evan's father Jason(Callum Keith Rennie) is now in a psychiatric institute because of the same disease, and that is why his mother Andrea(Melora Walters) got scared, and take him to the doctors. Doctors suggested him to write down every instance through which he goes in a copy, so as it will help him regain his memory.

Now he is a grown-up(Ashton Kutcher) and study in a college, and one fine day during a date in his room, he started reading his journals, and suddenly he started remebring the missing memory incidents, and not only that he will be able to travel in that time inside the head of Evan of that time, and started doing things, which actually from the viewers point, he's filling his memories, and not only that, he can also change the past, if he did something different, when he came back into the present, everything got changed, since the past is altered. Whenever he did this, something or other thing got disturbed, and he has to go back in some other past memory to make it correct. The movie has a sad ending.

If you're aware, let me quote the chaos theory - "Even a flutter of a butterfly's wing can cause a typhoon half way around the world", and it is called the butterfly effect, meaning even a small change(needle-like) can change big events, similarly, taking the same concept this movie's plot is written and developed. The hero went into the past to correct one small thing but it can alter all the future of every person thus involved. Brilliant thinking, and nice story, liked the concept. In the starting movie gave a feel like, maybe some scenes are missing in between, but that was the thought-up build of the story, they're the black-outs of the hero, since he didn't remember that event, we are not able to see the same, but later on when he comes back into his memory those voids filled up, beautifully woven plot, but you've to be patient with the movie, since at some time you may feel boring, but that slowness is required so as you understand the non-linear plotline, and this story is written by Eric Bress & J.Mackye Gruber. Direction is good and the setup is fully matched with the intended plotline, it seems like somehow the movie has a touch of RGV where all the characters have some or other mental issue, like here, the Millers's dad is a perert who enjoys child prnography while Evan's dad is suffering from same disease, and Kayleigh is insecure, while Tommy is psycho and Lenny has a soft mind, but all these untold and scratchy characters add up to the film's betterment, the characterization looks like left in between to give the full feel of lost-mind movie.

The acting of all the actors including child artists is good, everybody played their role well, Ashton Kutcher looks good for the college boy, and Amy Smart as grown-up Kayleigh is perfect choice, she did acted very well in different roles or rather I say in different settings(as changed by the altered past), even the other two actors also performed well, not to forget the child artists, they all did acted very well, no doubt, the direction was good. Movie was released in 2004 and goes upto just under 2 hrs duration, and is watchable,

if you want to enjoy a different kinda movie with a hint of sci-fi, but if you're not a fan of sci-fi avoid, because then you'll not be able to like or enjoy it, since it's not for masses or everybody, plus movie generally receives negative reviews by critics, but I liked the movie, hence I recommend it as a one-time watch for sure, I rate as 3.5/5, and watch it with friends or alone at home/tv.
