In a way, this is a very restrictive review. I don't read Asian Age on weekdays or even Saturday. So there is no point in commenting on the general Asian Age. I'll talk about the Asian Age's Sunday edition.
This is one of the best ways to spend four rupees on Sundays! Look at the things you get in return:
1) Dave Barry's Column (Reprint from Miami Herald) : Now there are people who don't like Dave Barry, but I really don't want to address them at all :).
2) M.J. Akbar's Center Page Piece: Akbar is one of those under-rated writers, who has a unique point of view regarding most issues. His knowledge of History is commendable. And for those raised on very mainstream thoughts, I believe this is a right antidote.
3) The Page: This literary supplement has some good things on offer - Book reviews, being the most interesting of them.
4) More op-ed content.
5) Good Syndicated Cartoon Strips: Non-Sequitur (sic) being the best of them.
All in all, it's a more cosmopolitan newspaper than TOI, IMO.
You do get a hell lot of trash in it, too. So not all is well. But still, I'll recommend it for a Sunday afternoon (especially with the Sunday Times having reached a nadir).
