There are some movies that touch your heart and then there are some that try hard to touch your heart but fail to do so. Anurag Kashyap's That Girl in Yellow Boots is one of the latter.

The story revolves around a young Brit girl Ruth(played by Kalki Koechlin) staying on india on an invalidated visa in search of her father. She has nothing but a letter to confirm his love and presence. She doesnt really even remember his face as she was very young when he left.

Even though true to his character Anurag Kashyap has intricately woven scenes like Ruth's offer of "donation" in police station, post offices and bribe taken police-wallah, the story is not of much consequence.

The movie is 109 mins long, and I had a feeling it could well be concluded within an hour. There is lots of repetition when it comes to the seedy massage parlor scenes, the bribery and even the boyfriend. Even dialogues are repeated, but they fail to evoke irony in the viewer. Ruth doesnt speak with a Brit accent and the Kalki in Ruth's charcter in much visible.

Needless to say Nasseruddin Shah is successful in this cameo as well and the viewer somehow wishes that he turns out to be Ruth's father. But as expected the tryst of love, sex, dhokha and drugs leaves the viewer exhausted of the genre.

However, there are some great moments too. like how Ruth deals with Chittiappa(played by Gulshan Devaiya) once and for all or how she is able to ward off the police-wallah asking for a sexual favor from her.

and yes, the title track and the background music are great too.

Anurag and Kalki recently revealed in the an interview that the plot came to their minds after they read news of a British woman who came to India in search of her father and multiple cases of incest and abuse - but its a half baked pie.

Can be watched if you like Kalki and Anurag

Rating it average, because Anurag can do MUCH better
