If ever you are facing a loss of appetite, then just take a sniff at this red and dangerous looking pickle! You'll instantly "eat like a cycle" as a dear relative used to say.
Before marriage, pickle was pickle to me: North Indian mixed vegetable, Telugu Avakkai. But once I began life as the partner of a Malayalee, I realised that, for them, no pickle will do that is not from Kerala. Even that is stretching it too far! No pickle will do that contains vinegar, mustard oil and other sinful additions. You think I'm exaggerating? While the female elders among my in laws were alive, no pickle that they or a family member had not prepared would do.
And thus from those early years of enlightenment till today, the only pickles we are allowed in our family of 2 today are Kerala pickles and, even among those, only that which is personally chosen and bought by the world's best husband.
And I readily bow my head to the splendour of his choice, jokes apart.
It is thus that Thankam's Tender Mango pickle is always to be found on my kitchen shelf.
You can enjoy it with a meal of rice and side dishes, with rotis, with bread, with breakfast dishes or snacks.
I've even seen a person add it to a Bloody Mary!
So buy one packet today and enjoy your senses come alive.
