A few years ago I took a trip to Alabama to meet my future in-laws. My flight originated in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma with a change in Dallas, Texas to Birmingham. My day started out as a crazy day anyway and the end of the day was the icing on the cake. As many of us know you want EVERYTHING to be perfect when you meet the future in-laws.
I arrived at the airport on time for my fight to Dallas. We got to Dallas without any major difficulties. The layover in Dallas was almost three hours so I found the cafe, grabbed a bite to eat and found a magazine to flip through. About an hour into my meal the skies began to get a little gray but no big deal or so I thought. We were about to have a freak thunderstorm and it was going to be a doozie! Our flight was canceled and rescheduled for the next morning at 8 am. Ok, now my first thought was I have no wheels to get to a hotel. The young man at the ticket counter came over the intercom and said that all the passengers from our flight were to go get on shuttle whatever for transport to the Hyatt. WOW! I was actually going to stay at the Hyatt and I did not have to pay for it? What a deal! Everyone at the Delta counter was more than helpful and kind. We were all so tired already.
As I approached this magnificent building I was in awe at its glory. As we walked through the front door I felt as if I was in a palace. It was beautiful and spotlessly clean. Wood everywhere, mirrors couches and chairs. There were 6 desk clerks trying to help us all get into our rooms for our stay courtesy of Delta. Walking on the carpet was like walking on clouds. It was bouncy and that added a spring to my step.
When it was my turn to get a room the clerk was very kind. She knew we were all tired and just wanted to rest. The first thing she asked me was if I wanted a smoking or non-smoking room. I wanted a non-smoking room and got one. I gave her my license and she took my information down. She assured me there was no charge and everything had been arranged with Delta. She did ask to see my ticket stub to verify I was on the flight. I gladly handed her my golden ticket to one night in a heavenly hotel. I was given my key and off I went. As I turned to go towards the elevator a bell boy approached me and kindly asked ''Ma'am, may I take your bags?'' I told him that he could and thank you very much. After I arrived at my room I offered to tip him for his help and he politely said ''No thank you ma'am. You have had a hard evening and this is the least we can do to help ease your stress.'' He also insisted that I call down to the front desk should I need any extra towels or coffee. I again thanked him and as he left he told me that in the morning at 6am the hotel leaves a copy of USA Today at each door. He also reminded me to be sure to lock my door after he left. He reminded me of my brother and it was really very sweet.
I walled into my room and found it looked like a den. It was cozy and warm. The carpet was a warm green color and all the furniture was wood. The only plastic items were the coffee machine and the front of the little fridge. You almost have a mini office in the front room. That sounds funny to say front room in a hotel but that is what it was. I had a little round table with two chairs and a love seat to rest on. Next was the bathroom.
The bathroom had so many extra towels you could bathe a family of four and still have some left. The toilet was immaculate, as was the bathtub. The floor was so shiny you could almost see your reflection. The shower curtain was clean also. Not a drop of mold anywhere. There was also a built in dryer. It was not a very big dryer but it would work!
Now we enter the BIG bedroom. The bed was a king-size bed. I had never slept in a bed that big before and I got lost! It was fun! The sheets were crisp and fresh. The comforter was a deep green and smelled like fresh spring air. At the foot of the bed on the opposite wall was a huge cabinet. I had no idea what was behind the doors but I was eager to find out. A huge television! I am not sure but I think it was a 25-inch television. To the left of the television in the same cabinet was a little closet for my clothes. Inside the closet there were three drawers. In the second drawer was a little iron. Beside the cabinet was an ironing board. How cool!
On either side of the bed were two night tables. The one to my right had the phone, a lamp and an alarm clock radio combination. I am not a fan of waking up to the phone ringing so the clock radio was a nice touch. The remote to the television was in the top drawer of the night table. It was a nice feeling to know that the remote was not glued or wired to the table. We were actually being trusted.
