Terminator-II-Judgment Day(1991)

Producer & Director: James Cameron

Cast: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong, Robert Patrick etc.

Introduction:

Coming back with the sequel of the super duper action flick Terminator director James Cameron now gives us Terminator-II The Judgment Day. Although this time the movie is more costly, more action sequences are present, the Terminator theme gets a new beat and the best of all Arnie becomes the good guy. The movie was produced and directed by James Cameron. I wonder T-1?s producers didn?t finance T-2?(maybe that?s coz Arnie was being cast as a hero now so it would be a real risk but anyways the risk paid off.) Now as I found out from internet here is some info about the movie:

=>Terminator 2, Judgment Day was reportedly the most expensive film ever made, at least in 1991 and all the high-tech, high-cost special effects really show it. A big crowd packed the Wyo Theatre Tuesday night for the special sneak preview of the show and there were a lot of oohs and ahs. The movie cost $100 million, $17 million of that for special effects. Industrial Light and Magic did the honors, including the latest in computer-generated images. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was also the star of the original ``Terminator,'' reprises his role in the original with a twist. Reportedly Schwarzenegger was paid $15 million for the sequel. That's more than twice the cost of the original film.

The Story/Plot:

Here we go again? The Humans fighting against the machines once again. And once again at the start we are shown the same images?L.A. 2029 AD machines killing humans-their creators although with some realistic special effects (what were the17 million $ spent for!!). As I had said in my earlier review of T-1 there is Sarah Connor(Linda Hamilton) who was left alive(this was a spoiler in T-1 so didn?t write it). But since the people don?t believe futuristic views she is shown to be in a mental hospital having treatment.

Her introduction is similar to that of Sanjay Dutt in Jung where he is shown doing Pull-ups (front up). But Linda is shown to be doing Pull-ups the easier way. So she has developed some biceps in the 10 years she has been in the mental joint. Oh by the ways the villain for the machines and the savior for the human John Connor (Edward Furlong) is now 10 years old and is a spoilt brat.

Lives with his foster parents and as usual doesn?t share a good rapport with them. Doesn?t really know anything bout the machines until he meets the Arnie. So as usual as we were shown in T-1 the machines now set to kill John and so they send the bad Cyborg Robot and a good robot both in the form of Humans-One to kill John and other to save John. As usual both land naked from Future to present.

First up its Arnie who has lost the shape of his physique slightly. Still he rocks. Goes in the club scanning every dude in bar to find some clothes (now how far was the clothes store there??). Anyway gets a leather jacket and a shotgun on and also a Harley Davidson. On the other side we have the bad Cyborg robot Robert Patrick-The Terminator who is also generated and finds a cop and kills him and becomes a cop himself. Here we assume that Robert can assume any form he likes.

Since the machines were shown to more resistant in T-1 they are now more advanced in technology and harder to kill now. Anyway coming back to the story both the machines find John the same way as they found Sarah in T-1. The machines simultaneously find John and once again the Terminator (the good one-Arnie- I cant stop myself calling him the Terminator even if he?s not) saves the kid. I

It?s a good chase sequence though the kid going on bike and the killer machine after him in a truck (check out how the machine drives a truck-he can put Schumi to shame..Also check out how Arnie jumps in the canal on the bike?he can put any bike rider to shame..lol) Arnie saves the kid and then informs him the he is from the future and that the kid is the future of the world. He also says that the killer machine has the same programming done so he can easily find where John is(Wireless networking u see) infact he is more powerful than the good machine and that he can assume any physical form he touches.

John is now scared and suggests that they should go and rescue her mom. This could potentially be dangerous is what Arnie says but then they go to save her. Ofcourse Linda still has the images of the evil Arnie (from T-1) and so she is hell scared when she sees Arnie for the first time. But then John tells her that his role has now changed he is the good guy now and so Arnie says as Kyle in T-1 said to Sarah..Come with me If u wanna live(in a robotic manner though). Now since the good guy is introduced the bad guy (I will call him Mercury man from now) need also be introduced and so he also comes in the mental hospital.

Sarah, John and Terminator have a save of their life from Mercury Man as they flee from the scene. Now Sarah has the information about the machines which are going to be produced in future by Cyborg and also the chip which is to be destroyed if they are to save earth from Machines. So now Sarah, John and Arnie go to find out the chip and the person responsible for this development (I don?t remember the name of the actor) and then to destroy the machine hand. But they have to remain alert from Mercury Man as well as the Police.

Will Sarah and John find the chip and destroy it? Will Arnie be able to destroy Mercury Man since he is much more powerful than Arnie himself? Will Mercury man kill John? Will Police arrest Sarah and John? And finally will the good Terminator be destroyed this time?

Performance wise Arnie rocked as usual as the good guy. He not only has good physique but also has great acting skills and he once again proved it. Linda proved once again that she also can act although this time her role was more demanding and physical than be4 and she did it with ease. The lad Edward did well too considering this was his debut movie. Looks like young Leonardo in the movie. Check out the scene where he teaches Arnie to say give me 5, Astalavista Baby and No Problemo.

But one actor who deserves a pat on the back is Robert Patrick. He, as the Terminator (bad) gave a stellar performance. Didn?t have much to say in the movie but his eyes said it all. His expressions were really awesome and this time he was comparable to Arnie in acting not being overshadowed by the latter.

As I said the special effects were rocking too. I am listing some scenes which must not be missed:

The entry of Arnie, The chasing sequence of John and Mercury Man, The scene in Cyborg systems, Helicopter chase sequence and the Climax.

Some of the scene are similar to T-1, which I am not revealing those that?s because some of them are near Climax and am not doing any spoilers here.
