The French Open is going to start on 27th May 2002. It is to be held at Roland Gaross.
It is very difficult to say who are the favourites. My personal favourites to win the title are Andre Agassi and Jennifer Capriati. I also like Anna Kournikova to win as she is everyone's sweetheart, but at present she is ut of form. I think she is more concentrating on fashion rather than tennis.
Martina Hingis is going to be missed in the French Open because of a ankle injury, Mary Pierce is also doubtful as she is the local women's player. The contest to watch is Williams sisters. Wow.......... if they both face each other it will be a great match indeed......
The French Open is played on Clay nad it normally suits the baseline players. Pete Sampras has never won the French Open, I hope he does this year. Even the linesman can overrule the decision as the mark of the ball can be seen on clay, so there is no chance of decisions going against them.
The only sad thing is that there is no coverage of the French Open in television. I hope Doordarshan ( India) shows the matches live atleast the Semis and the Finals.
From the India point of view, all the eyes will be on the pair of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi....... they have won the title once and they will be hoping to win it once more despite being separated.
All and all it will be great to watch the French Open as the rallies are long and the crowd over there is very noisy and cheerful.
So, get ready for the action, I know that everyone is getting ready for the Football World Cup........ but atleast u can see the French open once.
I am very excited to see the French Open and let the best player win the title.
