I must say that Sachin has given Mumbai one of its best restaurants. We ( a group of 6 adults and 2 children) went there on a Sunday evening and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had read somewhere that you dont get a place there unless you reserve and so we had reserved in advance (after getting the no. from ''Askme'').
We took the kids for a boat ride at the Gateway of India in the evening and then went to Tendulkars. It is just a stone's throw away from the Gateway in the same white building that houses the Cottage Emporium.
The ambience is superbe. The scheme is aqua blue throughout and is very soothing. We really liked the ambience. The toilets were unique (with full length mirrors, transparent wash basins etc.) and clean. They have projected screens so you can watch a match etc.
Sachin mementos / personal photos etc. are displayed all along the walls and are a delight for the Sachin fans.
Check out the paper coasters with cricket jokes. Its a nice touch. I collected them as a souvenir. By the way, there is a souvenir shop on the ground floor but we did not venture in there.
The service is friendly, quick and polite. The food is very good though the variety is a little less. But, on the pro side, it has some very different international dishes that you wont get to taste at the average restaurant (like the cheese souffle or the crispy okra - very tasty).
We had some very good cocktails and drinks (which were authentic). Try the kiwi margarita - it was good.
For starters we had some spicy okra (ladyfingers) and wok chicken and one of Mumbai's best fried bombay duck. Everything was tasty. We also tried the cheese souffle which was very good but the quantity was less, considering the price :)
For the main course, we had Indian food - a great baingan bharta with rotis and a fragrant chicken biryani. I wanted to try the other international dishes but since the others in the group were not very for it, I thought I would come again and try them ;)
The desserts were excellent - try the apple crisp with ice cream. The chocolate mousse and the flavoured creme brulee (praline-flavoured) was also great. They also serve Haagen Daaz ice cream.
For kids
The kids with us (my son and nephew) had an uncommonly great time - what with the special kids menu (my son chose the food himself - Sara's favourite - which was the fish fingers, curly fries and baked beans) - and the kids toy room.
Usually, the kids really get bored in restaurants, but this was a place that they loved. And being a mother, I really appreciate the care that has gone into the restaurant for children.
The kids room has lots of safe toys, a car, books, a t.v. with cartoons going on, a special toilet for kids (with a low seat) etc.) - and a baby sitter too :)
I really recommend this place for families.
Location
The place is conveniently located near Regal theatre in the Cottage Industries building- Narang house. You can reserve a table to avoid disappointment. They have valet parking so no problems there. The only problem is that the prices are a steep and its o.k. if you are loaded. Else, like us, go there only for special occasions :)
ENJOY!!
