TEN YEARS WITH GURU DUTT is a first hand account by Dutt's friend and writer of his many films Abrar Alvi which is compiled and summarised by journalist Sathya Saran.
It takes into account year 1954 to year 1964 when Abrar became friends with Dutt and wrote PYASA and KAGAZ KE PHOOL.He also directed SAHIB BIBI AUR GULAM on Dutt's insistence but songs were picturised by Dutt.
The Book starts and ends with a tragic note how Dutt died and possibly why.
Many heroines of yesteryears like Meena Kumari and Waheeda Rehman's lives are also discussed in the book like what was exactly between Dutt and Rehman and why the relations soured. It also includes Meena Kumari's tragic life how she was beaten mercilessly by her husband Kamal Amrohi and his right hand man Baker.
Dutt's passion for certain things such as film direction and its technical knowledge and many other things are described in detail.
It also brings to light early years of Dharmendra how he came to Industry and later obliged Abrar for an incomplete Dutt film as he was on jury when he was selected.Mehmood, Tanuja and Mala Sinha also make up for various chapters.
All in all, it was a great read.I recommend this book for Guru Dutt fans.I liked the book immensely with old photographs and numerous interesting trivia.
Thanks for reading my review.
