Nadeem-Shravan: The names stand for creating soothing & soulful romantic music. Right from Aashiqui(1990) to Barsaat(new)(2005). They have made such blockbuster and outstanding tunes that selecting a mere 10 of their songs is a joke actually. 20 would have better though still MINISCULE.
Copycats, no originality, repetitive, blah blah blah. Their criticism has been anything BUT healthy. Which music director can claim originality? Yes, some of their tunes have been copied.
Its alleged that'Yun Hi Kat Jaayega Safar'(Hum Hain Raahi Pyaar Ke) is copied(I have not heard the original, so it is'allegation' for me). So is'Dil Laga Liya Maine'(Dil Hai Tumhaara), etc. etc. But even such'copied' tunes have been huge hits. So, there must be something unique about their music.
Nadeem-Shravan tasted their first monstrous(thats a MILD word!) with their brilliant masterpiece(AGAIN, MILD words!) Aashiqui. Since then, theres been no looking back. Every year, there have been atleast 3-4 HUGE RECORD-BREAKING albums from the duo(except probably'95 when only'Raja' clicked and'04(only Tumsa Nahin Dekha). Enviable record.
For some years now, Nadeem is living in London and Shravan in India. Then too, they create magical scores. Cant help wondering if both were in same place, then. woww http://www.
I think VERY FEW PEOPLE are aware that Nadeem-Shravan are the only music directors amongst the present music directors who have a won a HAT-TRICK of Filmfare Awards('91(Aashiqui), '92(Saajan), '93(Deewana). Too good.
Its their simple music which has been the secret of their success.
Now to the MOST DIFFICULT TASK of selecting their 10(a VERY VERY VERY LOW number) wonderful songs. These are my personal favourites. So, Nadeem-Shravan fans dont be disappointed not to find your favourite in this list(Actually, 100 best songs would have been OK(Yep. JUST OK.).).
- Der Se Hua Par Pyaar To Hua Re(Kumar Sanu:Solo)(Alka Yagnik: Solo)(Lyrics:Sameer)(Hum Ho Gaye Aapke)
Anyone whos seen my 5 best songs of Alka will have noticed that this song is at the TOP there too. Cant help it folks. Its soft & soothing music backed up with simple and beautiful lyrics make this song simply one of the best. Bad luck to those who have not heard this one. Majestic song.
- Woh Bewafaa Hai, Tu Bewafaa Hai, Haan Bewafaa Hai, Ek Bewafaa Hai(Sonu Nigam)(Lyrics: Sameer)(Bewafaa)
The song of the year 2005(according to me). The orchestra is amazing. Anyone who criticises N-S on the ground that they dont adopt modern music techniques has to hear this one. Sonu is wonderful. Akki's emotions are believable and create some sadness(Sorry. I couldnt restrain myself from commenting about Akki. He was too good in the song) especially the line which goes'Koi sheesha agar toote badi awaaz hoti hai, magar dil toot jaane ki sada koi nahi sunta'. Too goodddd.
- Mera Dil Tere Liye Dhadakta Hai(Udit Narayan, Anuradha Paudwal)(Lyrics: Sameer)(Aashiqui)
A great romantic song. My heart beats for you. The feel-great music is well backed up by the lead singers and sugar-coated https://lyrics.
- Jeeye To Jeeye Kaise(Pankaj Udhas: Solo)(Kumar Sanu, Anuradha Paudwal, S P Balasubramaniam)(Lyrics: Sameer)(Saajan)
Surprisingly no one listed this song in their list. An ultimate romantic song which says it is NOT POSSIBLE to live without your beloved. Both versions are outstanding. Pankaj Udhas' version has one para. The other version has a para each by Kumar Sanu, Anuradha Paudwal & S P Balasubramaniam. A truly brilliant composition. Sameer's lyrics deserve special mention.
- Aaye Ho Meri Zindagi Mein(Alka Yagnik: Solo)(Udit Narayan: Solo)(Lyrics: Sameer)(Raja Hindustani)
Needless to mention, both the versions are magical. The beats of the drums are terrific. A wonderful composition
- Bas Ek Sanam Chaahiye Aashiqui Ke Liye(Kumar Sanu: Solo)(Anuradha Paudwal: Solo)(Lyrics: Sameer)(Aashiqui)
Everyone likes the Kumar Sanu version, but I adore both of them equally. The music is the same, the lyrics change(so is the case with the above songs too).'Just as for living one needs to breath, similarly one needs a beloved to love'. Way to go, Sameer and N-S.
- Do Dil Mil Rahe Hai(Kumar Sanu: Solo)(Lyrics: Anand Bakshi)(Pardes)
What a song. Kumar Sanu is terrific. The music is very soothing. The guitar goes on from start to end. Way too good.
- Humko Sirf Tumse Pyaar Hai(Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik)(Lyrics: Sameer)(Barsaat)
One of the most beautiful romantic songs. The whistle in the song is like the icing on the cake. Alka is particularly brilliant. Sanu isnt far behind. The song goes like'I love ONLY YOU.'. A very good song for those who dont cheat on others.
- Dil Hai Tumhaara(Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan)(Lyrics: Sameer)(Dil Hai Tumhaara)
A fantastic song. The music at the start is especially great and the end music competes with it. The three singers complement each other perfectly.
- Ek Aisi Ladki Thi(Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik, Ajay Devgan)(Lyrics: Sameer)(Dilwale)
Had to choose between this and Ek Aisi Ladki Hai. Went for the sad song. Kumar Sanu is at his best. The music suits the sadness of the song.'For whom I lived, for whom I used to die, there was a gal whom I used to love.' Great going, Sameer.
As I said, 10 is miniscule. SOME of their other BLOCKBUSTERS are:
Nazar Ke Saamne(Kumar Sanu, Anuradha Paudwal)(Lyrics: Sameer)(Aashiqui)
Bahut Pyaar Karte Hai(Anuradha Paudhwal: Solo)(S P Balasubramaniam: Solo)(Lyrics: Sameer)(Saajan)
Rabba Ishq Na Hove(Sonu Nigam, Alka Yagnik, Kailash Kher)(Lyrics: Sameer)(Andaaz)
Ab Tere Bin Jee Lenge Hum(Kumar Sanu)(Lyrics: Sameer)(Aashiqui)
Maine Tumse Pyaar Bahut Kiya, Mujhe Tumse Pyaar Ab Nahi(Alka Yagnik)(Lyrics: Sameer)(Barsaat{new})(not yet a blockbuster)
Dil Ne Yeh Kaha Hai Dil Se(Sonu Nigam, Alka Yagnik)(Lyrics: Sameer)(Dhadkan)
Dil Mera Tod Diya Usne(Alka Yagnik)(Lyrics: Sameer)(Kasoor)
Aetbaar Nahi Karna(Abhijeet)(Lyrics: Sameer)(Qayamat)
Ishq Jab Ek Taraf Ho(Kumar Sanu)(Lyrics: Sameer)(Hungama)
Teri Umeed Tera Intezaar Karte Hai(Kumar Sanu, Sadhana Sargam)(Lyrics: Sameer)(Deewana).
Whew. I have still left out sooooooo manyyyyy. I know.
